X2. My brake light didn't come on and mine didn't have ABS but when my speedo started bouncing everywhere, it was the speed sensor on the rear diff that fixed it.

05's have a single sensor at the top of the rear diff.
06's have sensors at each wheel.

speed sensor located on top of the rear diff, or the harness leading up to it. both available at decent price from dealer, both possible to install yourself.

Check the rear tri-link, there is a ball joint that attaches that part to the rear diff that goes bad, plus there are two bushings on the front part of the tri-link. Buy a good one, the cheaper ones you'll find will not last long

Did you check the wiring to the sensor? Sounds like something is shorting out along the way, to me.
