Amazing, simply amazing
Some business owners amaze me in their approach to hiring people.
They "want " some one with years of experience, knows their product(s) inside and out, will go beyond a normal work day even be on the internet on their own time in the evenings etc.
but pay them the same wage as you would make at McDonalds.
I've been in business and have ran companies, I hired people who knew what they were doing and paid them accordingly and they were successful. Hiring good qualified people and paying them well for a good job, not only makes the employees happy and want to work harder it also makes you look good and makes you money in the end.
If they don't pay you enough so that you can have decent housing, have enough food to eat, and maybe , just maybe be able to go out once every 6 months, then there is something wrong with their concept of hiring a good well qualified person and their pay range.

OK RANT OVER for tonight go home now folks and hug your wife, girlfriend or Jeep which ever one is the warmest

I'm grateful for my current boss every single day. I get paid the same as my last job, but she pays the entire health insurance premium, stocks the cabinets and fridge, pays for lunches, stocks the coffee supplies, gives me extra $$ here and there....and I work 2 miles from home opposed to 15. I end up with so much more money at the end of the month, it's not funny. And she thanks us for working hard and praises us when stuff goes well.

Best decision i ever made, walking out of my last job. Last boss paid 1/2 our insurance premiums and, well, that was it. I had to buy coffee supplies, I had to bring my lunch or buy it myself, nothing was stocked in the cabinets or fridge (and he griped about having to have a fridge and a microwave) and not one word of thanks or praise in the 10 years I worked there.

I have found that the mere act of thanking people makes a huge difference in every type of relationship. The fact that most of us aren't independently wealthy and working just for "something to do" means a little bit of financial "thanks" in a job situation goes a long way too.

Exactly.

I mean, which boss would you work for? Which boss would you go above and beyond for?

It's a no-brainer.

I was hired to be the Executive Director of an agency with 128 full time employees, and anywhere from 40-60 part time depending on the time of the year a few years back. The last person in that position was never seen while in the office, took extended time away, stole money etc
ANYWAY I started going office to office spending some time to find out what each department each person did, and something about them. At first they were scared thinking I was there to fire them ( well maybe it was the fact that I did fire 13 people the two days I was there  ) but after a few weeks, there was a huge change, everyone seemed happier. You'd hear people in the halls talking and laughing, they came and gave me ideas on how to improve each section, improve the way we did things. Every Friday I met and provided the pizza etc. for a different program/division and we just talked about anything that came up. People were happier, worked harder, made sure their work was done ( which wasn't the case before) .
So yes a simple Thank you, having someone know that they are appreciated in some way goes a long way to having a healthy employee base. OH and absenteeism went from an average of 17 people per day off to 3 per day in just over a months time and continued to get even better.

Well once she takes over the KJ then we'll remove you from the LOST membership, ( since we'll need to add her and you'll be driving something else ) it's been nice knowing you, maybe you can come to the M&Gs with her after that once in a while

Anyone watching the Lambrecht auto auction?
Amazing that some one would put close to 500 cars some with only 2 or 3 miles on them out in a field on their farm. He didn't want to sell a used car so any traded in were taken to the farm. When the new model year cars came out any left overs were taken to the farm
On the History Channel now

I've been following the story in the news. Pretty nifty time capsule of automotive history they have there.
