How hard is it to remove the EGR valve? I've read where guys take them off and clean them on the 6.0 liter Powerstroke. Someone on this site also mentioned that they can be cleaned and reused.

Mechanically it's not difficult to remove the tubes and plate over the holes. The computer won't like it. Find a way to dummy up the software and the EGR can go away. I believe that's the way it's done on a VW??? Hopeful that someone would figure this out as warranties start to expire.

I'm not necessarily talking about eliminating it, just cleaning it and reusing it.

That is possible. My dealer did it with a customer last fall when they could not get a replacement valve.

From what I understand, and I could be wrong, it requires a great deal of effort on the CRD; it's located in an inconvenient location and requires draining all coolant from the engine.

As soon as someone invents the chip or mod that allows removal of the EGR, I'm buying.
