Hello all!!! This is my first time posting but have been reading all of your posts for quite some time now. I have to say that everybody on here is so very helpful and is good to know that other people are in the same boat with the same problems etc... I installed the provent at about 2,000 miles but took it off at 8,000 miles because I had to have my EGR replaced and had other misc. things that popped up. Make a long story short I haven't had a chance to put the provent back on. Anyway, I have about 15,000 miles on my CRD and my question is when old navy's CCV filter becomes available, what will become of the oil that is presently inside the intake, hoses, and turbo? Let me rephrase, once the filter is installed what will happen with that oil that is already in the intake system? Will it dry up eventually? Will the oil dry up and create a thin layer coating that will eventually break apart and pieces will fly into the turbo? I'm just curious and would appreciate some input on this topic. Thank you.
Don't think anyone really knows for certian. Assuming new oil ever stops on the intake side, it should eventually draft clean from the hoses (sucked into the motor) or be trapped in the bottom of the intercooler.
BTW, according to DC the oil isn't a problem. Dealer told me yesterday that even with the Provent working on the CCV oil, the oil coming past the turbo seals is also normal and acceptable to them.
DC's standard as "acceptable" oil consumption is 1qt/1000 miles. Still don't understand how they can EPA certify and engine blowing oil like this. My Oldsmobile was cleaner than that which is an ugly comparison. This is a consumption rate comparable to the old Detroit Diesel 2-cycle motors of the 1970's. Ever follow a bus down the highway and get spattered with oil?
