I'd do orm then gde tune, then take valve cover off (there is a walk through in the tech forum for rockers that I wrote, and plenty other useful info in the tech btw - viewforum.php?f=98 ), get the fsm(field service manual) from noob guide for torque procedure for when you put back valve Cover. Link to sir Sam's website for manuals: http://colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/

To replace the rockers, you need to remove timing belt anyways, so tb, rockers AND glow plugs (don't forget about them, it's so easy to replace them once valve cover is out and so hard with it... ) can be done in the same time. You don't really need ehm if you get gde, even if oil gets in the intake wont hurt anything bc gde tune will not let the egr work so no soot...

Price - Wise, gde sells a "box" with cables from where you load your tune in the jeep, and that box can hold 3 ecu programs(stock, and 2 tunes). That box is 200 if you wanna get it, on the top of the tune. If you don't get it, you'll need to send the ecu to Keith at gde to have it programmed. The timing belt kit and pretty much everything you need you get from idparts.com. Those guys are great and also have the best prices. Take a look at their website, but if it is hard for you to navigate through, I can go ahead and send you the links for what you want, just let me know. The tb kit is less than 400, rockers I believe about 450-ish, metallic glow plugs about 150-ish, you may need the intake elbow o-ring and the 2 paper gaskets, but you can always put some orange rtv and use the old ones. Injector o-ring and washer - 4 each. Also couple gal zerex g05 (and btw, you may want to replace all the coolant to be safe, if previous owner hadn't) , some gasoline to clean intake. I believe this info may be also somewhere in the tech forum.

It may be possible to need a torque converter, the stock one sucks and may shudder in 4th at low rpm (once you get a tune and increase the torque), but that's not so urgent since you can get used driving around it.

Almost forgot, you need at minimum a mean to lock the cams, if you search eBay there is a sealey kit with the bolts for that.

At NO POINT should the CRD be your only vehicle. Daily driver is one thing, but you cannot make it your only vehicle. At some point, it WILL be down for repairs.

ARP studs can be ordered from Summit Racing. The kit for the 1.9 liter VW TDI is the one you need, and you will need 2 of the kits. Check on ARP's website for the exact part number, for some reason when you search by application on Summit, the bolts aren't listed.

Well last night I drove the white Jeep and it seemed just a tad better than the black one ...so I put down a deposit. I will purchase it as soon as I finish with the sale of my truck. So next week I will be official I guess! It had the TB done at 100k so I don't have to do that repair immediately like the black one would have needed. Since money is always tight I am just doing the GDE tune and tires for now. (both Jeeps needed tires) That is easily a grand with just those 2 items! The other maintenance items will be bought over time and replaced all at once in a weekend.

This is the fuel filter head under the hood of my soon-to-be Jeep. Is this the "good" fuel filter head? I think I remember reading it should have 2 plugs on the front side by side, (which it does) but I thought one was supposed to be blue. What gives? True/False, Good/Bad?

Old style. The plug on the left is LARGER on the NEW style head.

1st gen/old style. On the 2n gen both plugs are about the same size and the driver's side one is blue, see pics. in the bleeding video in Sam's NOOB guide which you should read if you have not already done so.

If you order a new one be sure the get the wiring pigtail which sometimes is a separate item depending on where you order from. To install the new pigtail which comes with 2 sets of wires for some reason a) install 1 each of the different wires into the plug, b) clamp in place with the blue thing, c) pull battery cables, d) clip off old plug and install new one matching wires by color not size (solder or marine grade butt clamps). To remove the old assembly a) push don't pull the fuel lines off, b) unplug wires including the WIF sensor on the bottom, c) unbolt assembly from mounting base.

FYI the new assembly comes with a new filter and WIF sensor installed. Save your old WIF sensor just in case.

Thanks Pap! To clarify my original post, the 2nd gen "driver's" side plug is different size and requires a new spliced in male end plug that has a blue grommet, but either way it is obvious.

If you order a Mopar, it should get with everything you need.
