Your butt won't hurt for long if you pick up lube.
On a serious note, the dealership will be covering the timing set, (belt, pulleys, tensioner), water pump, and with a little luck be omitting core and allowing jrsavoie to keep the "core" at no charge, as well as covering injectors.
We shall see.
If this pans out (I'm not holding my breath) then GOOD. At least you will have enough parts to make 2 complete running engines. Someone will need the other one eventually.
If it doesn't, get back in touch with Jeff, I just sent him a PM detailing how easy it can be to get the original engine back running again. The missing components aren't that expensive if they are just 'hardware' and the biggest cost will be the head gasket. The injectors can be easily re-used in any order you like, since he has a GDE tune. Just write down the injector codes (6 letter/number code different on each one) and label the injector with what cylinder you want it in. Send that info to Keith at GDE, and he can reprogram the tune to match. Problem solved.
Etecno metal glow plugs from IDparts, $100. Solved.
Head gasket and bolts from idparts, $400. Solved.
Rockers from idparts, $400. Solved.
Timing belt kit with all needed parts from idparts, $400. Solved.
STOP GIVING MONEY TO CHRYSLER! This goes for EVERYONE. They are incompetent to even sell you a SODA without screwing up the transaction.
Yeah.
I have no problem either way with this. Like I told Jeff before the CRD came up here, I have not had a CRD apart before, but I did grow up with 2.1l Renault diesels in my MJ's and have a good amount of talent when it comes to reading a book and doing what it says...it is not rocket science. Between that, my history as a semi diesel mechanic, as well as my father's in-depth knowledge of them, we can sort out any issue with this thing.
I did tell Jeff that I can fix his diesel, and it would be cheaper, but with the "basket-case" situation of his, we both agreed that the warranty was worth it. Jeff's position was that if he doesn't get something with the peace of mind that it is going to last him hundreds of thousands of miles, he would be selling the CRD once it was repaired. I agreed, and we both agreed that a warranty motor was the way to go (at least based off the parts list we got from them).
That said, the dealership has told me flat out that if we cannot get the higher up (who gave them the parts list that we based the purchase off of) to cover the NECESSARY missing parts to make this run, they will at least make sure we get the complete timing set, complete gasket set, water pump. I'm going to hold out for the injectors as well, and plan to hold out for MOPAR to eat the core charge.
At the very least, we got a set of cam lock tools included with that they will NOT be getting back.
