I got a full size matching spare when I upgraded my tires. Today it was nice enough I finally had a chance to swap it out for my donut. (245/75/16 just fits) I put it in the hoist face up so the outer face of the rim is facing up. Does the orientation matter at all? I figure this way the front of the rim won't be exposed to as much road blast.

I believe it fits better if the outside facing part of the wheel is facing up. Atleast when I had to use my spare it was positioned that way.

What did you use for a 5th wheel?

Face down you won't need to drop it when you need to check pressure or fill it. I guess it depends on the wheel and if you can get to the valve with it face up.

I got a matching stock rim, it's the machines aluminum with the brownish gray accent paint. I am planning on running a 5 wheel rotation, so it will be coming down every 6k.

In that case just run it face up like you said to protect the good side. That is how they come from the factory.

I'd go face up as well. Not only to protect the finish, but to protect the valve stem when wheeling.

Sounds like a good idea to keep it face up if it fits like that. :2cents:
Good to know.

I actually use a towel to wrap around it before I put it back...because I got a flat tire but didn't want scratch the OEM rim.
