On my 2008 KK with 68000 miles, with auto tranny...recently it has been making a noise when shifting from first to second, this usually only happens the fist time in the morning, after I drive for a bit...it seems to go away...only happens at that shift point. right after shifting to second, I hear a "dunk, dunk dunk" and if I let off the gas, it goes away and when I re accelerate, I don't hear it. Well yesterday and today, it does the same clunk noise, but also makes a much harsher clunk first. Any idea what this could be, anyone have a similar problem? It is very hard to figure out where its coming from, since Im in the cabin...it sounds like its in the engine bay somewhere?

Have you changed your fluid lately? Mine started shifting really hard the first couple of shifts after startup after I changed my fluids. It has been a little bit colder here lately, also. I don't really get the noise you are having, but here is my thread about my tranny issue if it helps. Hope you get it figured out.

I haven't done the fluid, I'm guessing I should probably have the dealer do it...but the maual says 100k I believe. I don't know that its the tranny making the noise, it honestly sounds like its coming from the engine bay...could a worn or loose belt do this? The weird thing is...once I drive for a bit to work, its totally fine. I stop and start a few other times on the way here...and its totally normal. Could the belt cause this and maybe after everything warms up totally...the belt slack is gone? How much belt slack is acceptable??

I know exactly what this is!
This was recently discussed and found to be something with the ABS calibrating or something along those lines. Nothing to worry about.

Hmmm, interesting...def never thought of that. Would you happen to have a link to the thread? I did notice this morning on the way to work, if I don't let off the throttle a bit, it doesn't make that sound...atleast not today. I usually let up a bit because its a 20 mph zone where I live. Weird.

It may be possible that it's the backlash in the gears being taken up all at once, that is if the only time it happens is when you let off the throttle at the same time the tranny shifts. :?:

I have had my 08 4.5 years, put about 85,000 mi on her and it has done that same thing for a long time. Once leave my house I coast to a stop sign and the first shift to second is when mine does it, but only on the first shift of the trip when cold. Sometimes the colder it is the louder. It is not ABS, ESP or tranny sounding its really is a weird "click, dunk dunk dunk" sound. Hit 115,000 this week and running like a top other than the normal clicks and ticks of the 3.7 8)

Can't find the thread, but it was definitely discussed recently. Exactly how I would describe mine, too.
