I am a new owner and need some help. The check engine light came on today, I have cleaned the MAP sensor and done the EHM about 5 days ago. today while driving it the light came on. What would be some of the reasons for it to come that I can check. It has 111,000 miles and to my knowledge the timing belt has not been changed. I don't have a scan tool. so I don't know what codes it is throwing. Any help would be thankful, Bruce
Best to change that timing belt soon!
What year model is your KJ?. Early models up to about 2005 you could do the key trick to get codes:
Turn ignition ON/OFf rapidly 4 times....do not start the engine.....leave it ON after the 4th time.
If you get it right then the odometer will show you what codes have been stored...oldest codes first and newest codes last.
It takes some trial and error to get this right...sometimes it works with 3 ON/OFF attempts and sometimes 5!
Bear in mind that this does not clear codes and the oldest codes could have been there for years and are no longer of interest. Also bear in mind that this method of getting codes sometimes transposes the last two digits so a code of P0152 may actually mean PO125 for example.

Like your surname by the way!
