Yea, moving the wall locker on wheels at 70+ has a cost, lol. I got a little over 30 mpg by cruising at 72 for about 400 miles, very easy acceleration and I also have an e-fan (no viscous).

Not bad.

I get 30+ highway MPG as long as I keep my foot out of it. Staying under 70 mph driving towards Ohio. (no hills)

If you want real good MPG get a VW TDI. I'm getting 45 around town and 55 + on the highway. Incredible car. The 2012 Jetta TDI has a Malone ECO tune and RawTek exhaust.

As soon as they sell the tdi golf with 4motion (Europeans have it), ill get it... but with those winters on the snow belt, wouldn't drive a 2wd car. It will loose few mpg with 4wd but it will still worth it. I had an r32 mkv, that thing was incredible on light snow, I drove it to Michigan few years back on about 7 inch of snow at 70mph... passed every jeep and SUV. Impressive performance, every now and then I regret selling it...

I have several years experience with the GDE Ecotune. Before I got the Ecotune, I was averaging (hand calculated at every fill-up) from 22 mpg to 31 mpg. Completely dissatisfied with the Liberty's pathetic factory ground clearance (not to mention that the front springs were essentially worn out before the vehicle was 2 years old), I installed a Frankenlift II suspension lift and 245 R16 tires. That gave the Libby about 8 3/4 inches of ground clearance and hugely improved off-road performance, but knocked my fuel economy down to about 19 mpg to 24 mpg. Enter the Ecotune. With no other modifications other than the Ecotune, my fuel economy jumped back up to the previous 22 mpg to 31 mpg with improved performance, even with the larger tires.

The "e-ticket" would have been if Jeep had put the CRD in the US version of the old Cherokee, along with using the Ecotune calibration of the engine electronics. With the Cherokee's lower curb weight and soild axles, a "Cherokee CRD" would have been a smokin' off-road performer and probably been able to achieve close to 35 mpg fuel economy on the highway. With the now convoluted and overly restrictive emission regulations on diesel vehicles in the US, I doubt that we will ever get a 4WD that would achieve that fuel economy. The Ram 1500 V6 Ecodiesel and Jeep Grand Cherokee Eco Diesel may come close, but at a price point that most people won't be able to afford when the acquisition cost is figured into the cost per mile driving calculation.

I also want to vote for the ECO Full Torque Tune. We've had our 2005 CRD for a year now and just recently bought the tune. The increased mileage, power, lack of EGR etc really justify it in my book. We put 20k miles on our CRD in the first year of ownership. I really wish we had put the tune in earlier.

In the past few weekends we drove to Columbus, OH twice which is about two hours away. With the cruise set around 75 mph combined with some in city driving and my heavy right foot we averaged 26 mpg for the first trip and 25 for the second. Considering that's with winter fuel, I'm pretty happy with it. I would recommend the tune to anyone who's considering it especially if you plan on keeping the CRD for a long time. The cost of the tune will be paid back over time.

Thanks again Keith.

Installed the FT Eco tune on my CRD Saturday morning before taking a trip to see my folks. I calculated my mileage using my Garmin GPS trip odometer and achieved 32.5 MPG with the cruise set on 65 MPH, again using the GPS for speed. To say the least, I am very impressed with the FT Eco tune. I like the MPG and my trans never dropped out of 5th lockup no matter how steep the hill. Getting over 600 miles on a tank of fuel is phenomenal!

I also installed the Trans Tune. I like it very much also. Don't think I will be returning either of the tunes for a refund. Thanks Keith, for a great product that brings out the true potential of our CRDs!

I just don't know how people achieve this kind of mileage. My cross country when I picked up the CRD had me around 25-27. In town I've been low 20s.

Going on a 800 mile roundtrip soon (but this will be with a ski rack and some mountain and winter driving). Hoping for more now that I have a clean MAP and air filter. Will report back.

I don't disagree. My mileage went from 29 - 30 before the tune to 27 - 28 after the tune. It drives better, the fuel gauge is more linear and hopefully the ERG is nearly shut off but I was expecting an increase in mileage. We will see when the weather gets warm again. Keith can't explain it.

I can explain it, worn rockers due to EGR soot. Reduced air flow due to EGR buildup inside intake.

If you have replaced your rockers and cleaned out your intake, then I as well, am at a loss to explain, other than possible driving habits.

I was told that before. Worn rockers and dirty intake did not happen in the days it takes to send in the ecm and replace it in the vehicle. I am still at a loss to explain.

According to the PO, this mileage is up from prior to the tune. He had been troubleshooting mileage issues for a while, but I don't think he ever got to the bottom of it. My MAF @ idle number is good, so rockers should be alright.

However, I'm at 72k+ and due for a timing belt due to age. I don't think I'll do rockers this time around, but maybe that will get me another 1-2 mpg?

Do not believe the EVIG mpg. Not at all. Report back with a hand calculated number after a 400 mile tank.

I'm not sure you can trust hand calculated either. I'm finding my odometer is about 10% off on the low side which would make the EVIG pretty close to accurate. You will have to use GPS with a speed pulse input to be spot on.

Use a GPS to figure out how much you odometer is off by and use that factor in all your hand calculations. Mine is 5%

I get the best MPG driving a like a bat out of H311, but don't know why. Doing 85 down the freeway doesn't do any worse than 60. About 70-75 seems to be the best - at around 25-26.

Perhaps I'll get the money together and be able to afford the GDE tune so I'll get better than 20 to 22 in town.

I am running the Eco tune with a stock TC. No issues but mileage is the same or worse.

I've noticed that too... It's that "rev the piss out of it" Italian engineering I guess...?

stoutdog is running the EcoTune with the stock OEM torque converter with no issues and that includes this trip viewtopic.php?f=5&t=69117&p=739421#p739421

MPG in low 30s for normal highway driving or about 20% better than pre-tune

I hope since the MB GLK250 BlueTecs seem relatively obscure they won't keep their value. Supposedly with AWD and a 2.0L diesel they get near 40mpg - I had no idea it existed until someone pointed out it is cheaper then a Grand Cherokee CRD - in fact spec wise it seems like a fairly nice setup if the towing capacity was higher.
