Are there any good threads showing what you guys did for blocking or deleting the egr. I don't exactly know what to do. I had everything apart when I changed my glow plugs. I want to go back and remove the fcv and whatever the best option is for the egr

I simply made a block off plate for the EGR and removed the FVC disc plate. Made a heck of a difference! :D

Learn to use the Search function, there are many discussions here. I wrote mine up so it should still be around.

In short, you can't block off or delete the EGR without getting a constant check engine light, unless you have the GDE tune.

The tune preserves the turbo surge protection function of the EGR valve, as Glend stated. If you still want to delete the EGR after the tune, you can do so with various plates, and delete the coolant hoses that go to the egr valve and egr cooler. The bottom of a beer can, cut to fit, drops right into the trumpet end of the egr tube where it meets the intake elbow. I just checked mine that's been in there for a year, when I had to change glow plugs this weekend. It was still sealed nicely.

Mine has passed emissions in this configuration, no reflashing or removing plates needed. It is GDE tuned.

If you want, send me a MP and I will send you a complete procedure for removing everything.

I was thinking of taking my EGR off to clean it and was wondering did you notice any changes good or bad after adding the bottom of the beer can to the EGT tube as indicated? Also I do have the FT ECO Tune so does this mod affect the turbo surge protection? I am also going to be adding the BMW cyclonic oil separator to my CCV to help eliminate any additional crud caused by both the EGR and the CCV oil issue. Do you have any reccomendations or advise with performing each of these mods?

MtnClimber,

Sounds like your EGR is still active? Very bad for your engine. Get a GDE tune or SEGR and protect your engine.

Good luck

KJJET - I have the GDE FT ECO Tune. I am just looking to see what else I can do to improve the performance/mpg of my CRD as my fuel mileage still sucks. I'm lucky if I get 20mpg.

I don't know if it works on all but we left the valve/electric part plugged in and out of the way, then we welded the pipes shut. :D all done and no cel!!

Ok... good. I misunderstood you. Causes for bad MPG = Winter fuel, Bad thermostat, Dirty air or fuel filter, Dirty MAP sensor, Sticking E- brake, Dirty injectors, gummed up intake, BAD Rockers, Miss timed fuel pump, incorrect timing belt installation.

Good luck
KJJET
