1st, Really appreciate the plethora of good information on the site! I normally frequent the Ausjeep forum, but haven't been able to contribute much. I've read of the angst caused by the KJ's chime going on and on and on... whilst the drivers door is open with key in ign. A simple, quick fix: Remove the lower ignition shroud and locate the 10-pin ign plug. Check the color of pin 5. (My 2005 KJ is purple/orange) Follow the wire down the column a bit until you can get a clear 3-5 inches. cut the wire, and then add a simple off-on switch to give you control. (Not sure why you'd want it on!) After many hours driving, no cel. All the other warning chimes still active. (Low fuel, lights on etc). The only chime disabled is the "please remove key, your door is open' warning. Is has worked a treat for me, on my 2005 KJ (Liberty) CRD Limited. Now I can listen to the radio whilst working on my rig. :) Small things amuse... Rob ( I had 3 pics to show the process, but not sure how to upload, sorry!)

Not to be flip but when I want to listen to the vehicle radio while I work I just leave the window(s) down and frankly I like the "hey stupid you left the key in the ignition reminder) hence I would not, personally, consider disabling it.

oops, will try again  No worries, the mod is only for those who need to shut the canary up whilst the door is open. I'm in and out of the car 20 times in the hour, so it was driving me nuts :)

Understood. In the distant past I locked myself out due to lack of the chime so I even added chimes to several vehicles I restored. Now I have to keep from killing the chime by pulling the key part way out or all the way and tossing it on the passenger seat and then locking myself out which is why I have a hide-a-key in an obscure spot on the frame and when working with the key in leave a window down.
