In search of a sound. In a good way!

Ok so I just haf a magnaflow muffler installed. I left the resonator in place as I didnt want it to be too loud. The muffler sounds great!

On a side note I think I have discovered why people loose mpg's with a muffler. The muffler sounds so good and it covers up the whiny 3.7 v6. The jeep sounded poopy at say above 3500rpm. NOW with the muffler I dont notice the weak sounds until about 3800-4000rpm.... anyway.

Heres the question:
I love the way the muffler sounds and I would love to be able to make the engine sound better. I'm no mechanic so I'm not sure if this is even possible. Are there any mods you can do to make the engine sound more manly...lol. I would also love to have more responsiveness.

Its a V-6 no way to make it sound "more manly"
If you want "manly " buy a Dodge Viper or Hemi Cuda
it ain't gonna happen with the 3.7

Mine sounds pretty manly when you floor it. Besides that, it's just a nice tone.
What year is yours? if it's 2008-2010 you can install a Hypertech programmer for more responsiveness.

I have a Flowmaster 40 with the resonator cut off. I would not call it manly, just louder. It does get to be a little much on longer trips, no drone really just louder than I want on occasion. Sounds great at idle but when you get on it, it is really not the best sound and in no way will it sound like a v8. No gas mileage improvement, and no real power gains. Only way to make a V6 sound better is by forced induction but due to the weak rods on the 3.7 no can do on that, best thing is to just be happy with what the little 3.7 has from Chrysler

I would imagine the 3.7L might sound a little odd with a FlowMaster since the revs hang a bit.
So loud on my last V8 I wanted to try something different on this one.
Never a complaint about my exhaust.

Kinda what I figured but it never hurts to ask. The maganaflow has a very nice sound and with the resonator I dont hear it much until i roll down the windows.

Anyone else use the hypertech? will it last? I heard the computer will just relearn everything after a couple weeks.

NONONONONO!
It is the ONLY real programmer for the KK.
The computer WILL NOT "relearn" everything.
I have it and love it.

I have it and love it.

The hypertech really makes the KK fun to drive. It has helped a ton with the crazy on and off ramps here in sunny San Diego! I bought the econ model and it only costs $50 I think to upgrade with more features. I will probably do it when I add tires and/or gears.

Tex, can you tell me where you got it for 50 bucks. Everything I'm seeing for the econ is on the high side of 200.

I think I miss read your post. pretty sure you mean 50 to upgrade to the next unit. So I guess since I'm considering regearing I should get the latest one that has the parameters for the new gear size

Also I noticed the gains listed on their site are all above 4900. I rarely get above 4500rpm unless I'm slamming it for whatever reason. Would this not really benefit me? Also have you noticed any issues? Any loss of MPGs if youre not slamming it?

The biggest gains are under full throttle. It WILL throw you back in your seat.
If you're not full throttle, the results are still there.
Drastically improved throttle response and shifting, especially that stupid 1-2 shift.

Yeah you figured it out, high side of $200 is what I paid. I should have gotten the max energy one because they were both the same price at the time, but I didn't think I would need the extra features. Will need them in the next year. Like Gage said, you just feel the increased power in everything, but at full throttle is where you get the most action.

Just idling off the throttle it just feels like it pull much easier.
With the stock tune, it feels extremely held back.
Hypertech did a pretty good job. Still wish we could mess with out shift points, but we can't.

Maybe Hypertech will check out these boards one day to see that their tune is wanted on the newer models.

I'll gladly accept lol. For now, my "need for speed" has to suffice with my girlfriend's car. She has a brand new Chrysler 200s. It's a loaded hardtop convertible, 3.6 pentastar and 6speed auto. It's quick and will spin the wheels from a stop. It just sucks that it's fwd and auto...

Pretty sure the KK can chirp tires. Unless it's that much harder with bigger tires?

From a standstill I've done it a few times, even with the larger tires. With the larger tires, it's harder. I was only able to do it during season changes. Never chirped when shifting or anything though. Her car can literally make them keep spinning.
