Hey guys, I bought a set of the 7v Etecno glow plugs a few months ago in anticipation of doing a head gasket job. Now that I have it apart, I realized that the 5V conversion had already been done, but it's too late to return the plugs. If you need a set, I'll sell them for $100 and throw in free Priority Mail shipping. I know it's not some fantastic deal. I'm just hoping to get most of what I paid to get them. They haven't even been out of the boxes.

PM me.

Mike

Hi, just for info, I have just ordered a set of 3 glow plugs from DIESELGLOWPLUG.COM. I needed the 5volts, so the GX2123 but they sent me the 7volts, the GX3123. I told them about the wrong shipment but the owner said that these two glow plugs are exactly the same and that the engraving on the plug is made only for commercial purpose. Basically, if you order the two different plugs, you receive the same plug but with a different engraving. By the way, just to be 100% sure, tomorrow morning I'll give a call to Cristiano Bondani, the ETECNO owner and I'll ask him if this is correct. If he's positive about it then I'll fit the plugs that are sitting on my desk, and I guess you can do pretty much the same, since we are in the same situation. I'll let you know in a few hours.

Thanks for the follow up. I will guess that the 3123 and 2123 are different.

Alright! Just talked on the phone with Mr. Cristiano from ETECNO, one of the kindest persons ever. This is the deal, they have been working on a project that modifies the 5v in order to match also the 7v. So, if you have an old glow plug (6 months or older) then it works only at 5v or 7v (depending on the model). If you have just bought a new GX3123 or GX2123 then you can fit it in a 5v or 7v system without worrying about the voltage because they are identical.
Hope it was useful.

Thanks for that info Frank!

I must admit though that I do not know how the exact same plug can work correctly on either 5 volts or 7 volts! :?

Hi Bill, well... he said that they worked on spiral geometries to make the plugs respond to the 7v system getting hotter than on a 5v system but still performing as the ceramic ones in both voltages.

That's interesting.

I have the updated #56044671AC Glow Plug Module but I do not know if I have the 5v steel or the 7v ceramic plugs in there, and no idea which ones my ECM is flashed for.

So, the Etecno 7v replacements (#GX3123) from IDParts should work under either scenario without needing an ECM re-flash, right?

So they made a 6V plug and called it good!

:-) ... Yep... But make sure they aren't older than 6 months, because the new version came out only lately...

I had someone say they wanted them, but flaked. They're still available if anyone needs them.

That's not something for you to worry about . It's a bit like saying I do not know how the exact same laptop power supply can work correctly on either 110V or 240V. The mechanical design and/or materials used may self regulate the temperature over a given supply voltage range. Maybe something like this using a control coil to regulate the temperature: http://www.ngk.de/en/products-technolog ... low-plugs/
