I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD that has the original glow plugs. Glow plug 3 has gone bad and I am hoping to get it replaced. Is this a job that we can do on our own if we can purchase the 7v ceramic plug. Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated. I called the dealership and they don't know what they are talking about and cant really give me a good price quote.

#3 is the worst possible one to get to as it's behind the intake elbow. There is a decent write up at viewtopic.php?f=98&t=70159 .

Based on the experience of doing #3 on stoutdog's 06 do NOT under any circumstances attempt to remove #3 glow plug unless you can detach the EGR pipe clamp and get the intake elbow far enough out of the way to have a straight shot at removal/installation of the #3 plug as it's relatively easy to get just the wrong angle, if not removing straight, on the glow plug such that the tip will snap off and drop straight into the combustion chamber. Not a fun or cheap experience believe me.

As to replacement I'd suggest getting a replacement 7v metal glow plug from ID parts as you can drop it right in with the other 3 ceramic 7v glow plugs. That said if you are going to all the hassle of replacing #3 I'd recommend doing the others at the same time as they are simple to do.

Replacing the OEM plugs with steel 7v replacements is the best easiest choice. Getting to the plugs is the hardest part. Depending on your ability. I remove a lot to get good access. You be the judge.

1. Remove the battery.
2. Remove the Fuel filter housing.
3. Remove the FCV (flow Control valve) Not fun
4. Remove the intake elbow. Not fun at all!
5. Remove the alternator bracket.

Once everything is removed the Glow plugs are located under the intake starting with #1 being in the front. They have a small plug. Just pull to remove. Sometimes they are hard. Spray the old plugs with some good penetration oil and let them set. Carefully remove.
Use some anti-seize on the threads of the new Glow plugs.

If you have never had the FCV and or the intake elbow out before? You best be ready for some
