Leaking oil

I'm leaking oil from my CCV, is this normal ? And it's only a drop every other day or so

Where from the CCV - hose, sides, base?

When I first removed my CCV hose out of the intake boot and installed the elephant hose, it leaked some oil for a several days till everything apparently got blowed out good and then settled down. Now it never leaks anything that I can see and I do park on a concrete floor in a car garage at home and on asphalt at work in the same spot every day.. :BANANA:

It's coming out of the end of the hose, I have the end zip-tied to the frame

From an elephant hose? That's normal.

If you have a EHM and it didn't leak oil, I would think that would be abnormal.

Mine do not leak a drop, I am not sure why any one would want to smell crankcase vapors and have it leak on the floor, when it can harmlessly get pulled into the intake and burn away with combustion?

I am learning about the CRD, this is my first, I just traded a VW TDI for this 06 CRD, I love it, just trying to learn

Pararig - welcome and if you have not already done so read Sir Sam's NOOB guide. As to the hose the answer sort of depends on what the previous owner did. On the OEM installation there is a relatively short hose, which has IIRC a bit of a flair at the upper end, which plugs into the CCV (hockey puck size thing on the top passenger side rear of the valve cover) and that hose, which is probably still there, runs down and plugs into a fitting on the top of the airbox to turbo hose just in front of the turbo. You may have to a) undo the turbo to intercooler CAC hose to get access and b) remove any extra hose added plus pull whatever plug the PO installed in the airbox to turbo fitting to prevent it from sucking air since the CCV hose is unplugged.

While down there it's a good idea to remove the airbox to turbo hose to check for a not uncommon tear on the bottom side just in front of the turbo. When reinstalling or installing a new hose be sure the air box end touches or nearly touches the MAF sensor before tightening, no godzilla, the clamp lest you crush the plastic air box outlet.

"Harmlessly" is the key word! Oil vapors ingested into your turbo and blown into the inter-cooler cause problems! :roll:

Read the NOB guide and the many posts by others on this forum concerning this subject.
When I purchased my CRD the CCV hose was connected to the intake boot making quite a mess and making the air box to turbo boot very soft, which I had to replace. It was cracked and coming apart at the bottom!

While doing the timing belt job and I had the inter-cooler out; I found it had some oil liquid accumulated in the bottom that I had to wash out with gasoline and then soap and water. :shock:

With the EHM: no more soft intake boot or dirty inter-cooler! :-)r

fyi: My Dodge Cummins CCV vents to the ground and it came that way OE from the factory...

You just leave the system intact, and that little bit of oil vapor will not hurt a thing, there is not point to using a mod if you have the EGR disabled. The MAP stays absolutely clean with a GDE tune or the ORM.

Tell me what problems that oil vapor alone with no EGR causes, cause a bunch of us on this forum did not follow the hype of the CCV mods?

Another NOOB like you came in not knowing a thing and blew the seals out of his engine with the EHM and it froze shut, so much for his first few days of owner ship, now tell me again about all the harm that oil vapor causes? :dead:

Did replacing that hose break the bank, and can you prove it would have never cracked from just the heat of the turbo.

So how many gallons of oil were in the intercooler causing it to stop functioning? :ROTFL:

Did you do a pressure drop test during your engineering as well? :ALONE:

My Freightliner Cummins came with a vent tube in front of the engine too, I left mine alone, did you reengineers yours to make it better? :5SHOTS:

I noticed a couple weeks ago that our Liberty has been leaking oil and today with help from a friend, tracked it to to the turbo which was sucking oil from the CCV. We talked about doing the EHM or Provent install.

After some looking tonight, I found this link. It's a crank vent for a 2.5. Can this be adapted to the 2.8? Thoughts?

Those D window steel rims look great. I really want a set like that.
During the summer I run a EHM to prevent the oil from deteriorating the hose from the air-box to turbo. Not worth the risk of it freezing in the winter.
