My CRD started stalling this weekend if I stop any faster than a gentle rolling stop. I was back and forth between wiring harness chafing and fuel filter needs changing.

Experimenting today I found if I get off the brakes quickly enough the jeep just stutters and recovers without dying.

I leave Friday for a 10 month deployment but this is bugging the crap out of me to drive so im hoping to resolve it this week.

Any suggestions?

Torque converter? If you throw it in neutral, does it still stall?

It does still stall in neutral. It has stalled twice now taking off from a stop. Both times easing in the pedal. Once more it stuttered but I pressed pedal down and it recovered. Doesn't do it when being more aggressive.

I guess I should change the fuel filter to be safe. If carbureted I'd say filter is clogged. The jeep had 20k mid November when I bought it, now almost 26k. May still be original filter

Update. Apparently none are available locally so I guess it'll wait til I get back.

Yeah definitely try the filter. May need an updated fuel head too. Try NAPA. My "local" NAPA keeps some in stock, probably because of me. They usually can get them within a few hours if necessary, however. When you get your filter, fill the new filter up with something like diesel kleen additive, then prime the air out of the filter using the bleeder and the pop on the side of the filter housing.
