I would change all fluids to synthetic. Definitely change antifreeze. I was told by a friend who had lived in anchorage that in the winter he ran 90% antifreeze and 10 water. Fia front cover. Remember when it's really cold everything is brittle. I would inspect all hoses including vacuum and replace sections that have been rubbed on and appear to have wear. Make sure and grease anything that has a zirt fitting. Also check your block heater cord and make sure it's in good condition. You will want it plugged in.

Other things I would do is take the cooling fan off the motor and if you have the V6 air box mode I would take the snorkel part off to let the engine take it the warmer air for the engine bay. That would be most effective with the Fia front cover as mentioned above, and run a good fuel treatment with an anti-gel.

I find this topic funny. This year Alaska is warmer than many northern states of the lower 48.
Sorry

Maybe you should consider putting an Espar heater under the hood of the Jeep?

Where in Alaska? Some parts of the state are warmer than Missouri.

Even in the cold parts, if your vehicle is usually garaged, you haven't much to worry about. If you expect to park outside overnight sometimes, you might want to add a battery heater. Keep warm clothes in the car, maybe a sleeping bag.

Check the chart on the antifreeze bottle. They usually recommend a max of 70% or so, and that will be plenty protection for any temps you will see there.

It's a beautiful place.

Anchorage is a great city. Pretty mild (for Alaska) but you'll have some cold days. But there will be lots of days when your buddies are colder back in Missouri.

Beautiful country, and lots of great off roading. No sales tax, no income tax and they give you a check each year. Have a great time.

I have my 3.7L KJ here in anchorage, by chance are you getting paid to goto JBER? It's a big base, anyways regardless of having a heated garage, a really good battery such as Platinum P1 and a block heater/battery blanket/heater. If you plan on doing any traveling here.

I was just in -64*F (that's zero wind) weather in Galena AK helping FEMA with a flooded village.
That being said if you go anywhere overnight for sightseeing or what have you most reputable places will have outlets for you to plug your CRD into.

Everyone swears by winter tires.. , I just use A/T's although I do lose traction Ben in 4WD on main roads here. A tire with lots of siping is neccessary here. The roads are atrocious and NO Alaskans in anchorage don't have very good plowed roads.

Anchorage isn't a good place to wheel around, few places to do so on the peninsula. The shop Underground performance and offroad is a good place to start asking for local trails as well as a good shop that garages less than the stealership
