I just bought an 05 ,109000 miles. After reading on here I figured I better replace the timing belt. I'm trying to find someone whos knows something about this jeep. Two of the local dealers didn't even know they had a timing belt. I'm in southwestern lower Mi. Help? Tim

See viewtopic.php?f=5&t=77950&start=20 . If Chicago is a go maybe you can get in on this. It's a good deal and geordi knows his stuff.

That's probably a good list of dealers not to go back to. That's like a mechanic saying, "Huh, I can't figure out where the coil packs and spark plugs go." Granted ,there could be a timing chain...but it's a pretty small displacement engine for a chain.

Agreed with Geordi as good resource. There are also LOTS of people that have done it themselves (with good write-ups to be found here). Alternatively, a good diesel shop local do you, or even one that works on VW TDIs might be a good way to go. Many of the tools and even a couple parts are common between the VW TDI and VM designs.

There are many good write ups on here dealing with timing belt replacement.
Beesvillebeefarm.com has a good write up. If you are even the littlest mechanically inclined it's not that difficult of a job. There is also a write up to make your own timing pins may be on same website, so unless you plan on pulling cam gears which is not needed for this job there's not that much to it. Nor is there really any other special tools you will need. Coming hand tools. Only thing I purchased was the timing belt tensioner pully wrench.

And stay away from those dumb stealerships
