I just bought a nightmare CRD which turned out to have a blown out turbo, major exhaust leaks and likely oil starvation to the top end of the engine not to mention an ECU replacement that was likely not needed - ignorance of the dealership (and myself). Anyway I'm concerned about the condition of the engine beyond the rockers and cam. The engine only has 77k miles on it but could have been starved of oil for a very long time.

I've sourced reman units for $3500 or so. How much can I expect it to cost in labor hours to install one? Is anyone familiar with a trusted CRD tech in NE Kansas? Thanks guys!

Incredible amount of damage to an engine with 77,000 miles. Are you sure those miles are legit and not doctored? Did the carfax match the miles?

Can't imagine how the exhaust leak could have occurred on such a low amount of miles.

If you're going to do the work yourself and have a place and time to spare, then I would take it apart, inspect the tolerances and rebuild it to like new condition. Parts may be you're only expense.

You never know what you get with a used engine, it may need repair also.

Unfortunately I bought the vehicle because I'm moving to the city and unable to have separate vehicles to do different kinds of things. It's literally illegal to work on a car in parking lot where I'm going to be living :?

Do you know what might be a good cost estimate?

Send a PM to TJKJ2002, he may have a good idea since he is a mechanic.
