I haven't really been on the forum much since getting my Mazdaspeed Miata as my toy but recently I wanted to start modifying the Liberty more. I wanted more light options for when I hit the trails for deer hunting season so I decided to add the fog lights to my headlights. Expecting our 1st child on the way I had to be thrifty and sneaky about purchasing the parts so Mopar kit wasn't an option as the Mrs would notice the missing $300 pretty quickly. So here's how I did it.
Ordered the Standard Motor Products headlight switch with maintenance items from RockAuto.com-$26
Found the fog light harness mopar # 05166846AA on ebay for $25
Found aftermarket headlights on ebay for $125
But there's a problem, the patch harness that plugs into the totally integrated power module is not available for purchase so what I did was buy the entire connector repair kit, Mopar # 68032279AA, for $64. I only used 2 of the 52 wires included in the kit but that just means I can offer the extra wires for sale for those who want to do the same as I did.
With the right wires pined into the correct location on the existing harness connector it was just a matter of cutting off the wire connector on the mopar fog light harness and splicing in the newly pined wires. Run the harness and attach the new headlights. Once its all said and done it has to go to the dealership so they can tell the Liberty to turn on fog light controls. $54 later I have working fogs.
Total cost for parts: $240 vs the $300 for the kit. I probably could have saved 10 bucks by making my own fog light harness but $10 is worth not having to do the extra work.
On a different note, I do have 10 fog light "hack" kits ready for anyone who wants to do as I did. Using my hack kit and making your own fog light harness would bring the total cost for parts to around $176. Kits are just $10 shipped and can be found here:
