Tomorrow I will be changing my oil. When I bough the CRD at the end of Febuary the oil is very black. I know that these engines get sooty quick, but I still want to change it even though the maintenance records say that it was changed in January. I bought the 0W40 Mobile 1 oil. I would have preffered the 5W40, but no one carries it around here and I didn't want to wait for the kit from idparts. Next oil change will be the 5W40 haha. I also got a new oil filter, funny that the guide book at walmart doesn't list any mopar filters for the CRD...

Any tips or thoughts? :JEEPIN:

No comment about Walmart.

Any local NAPA store should have or can get Shell Rotella T6 5w-40, runs ca. $20-21 per gallon, and it's listed as in stock at 6 Advance Auto stores in the general area.

As to oil filters Mobil 1 M1-301 or WIX 51515 oversize/51516 stock size or NAPA Gold 1515 oversize. Oversize filter full oil fill is 7qts vs. 6.3-6.4 on stock size. Oil dip stick accuracy varies so check where full fill level actually is once you have done the fill and run the engine long enough to fill the new filter.

Walmart, Autozone, & advanced auto should all carry Mobil 1 5w-40 Turbo Diesel Truck (TDT) by the gallon. I think it's around $26 or $30 normally. A lot of us swooped up a bunch when Autozone had them on sale for $12. I also got a bunch of the regular-sized Mobil 1 M1-211 oil filters when Amazon & Walmart had packs of 2 for $9. Not sure you can still get those deals tho.

After work today, I was at walmart again, and I saw the Shell Rotella 5W40 all the way in a dark corner of the oil rack

I will switch to that after a few months of driving with the mibile 1. I will try to tackle the oil change tomorrow.

The oil change is pretty straight forward. I put the jeep up on ramps. The hardest part was breaking loose the oil filter. I noticed there seemed to be oil around the gasket for the oil pan, maybe they overfilled or just didn't replace the gasket. I saw some things that wouldn't pass a pre-purchase inspection.
