Hello. I'm new to this forum. I am currently looking at 05/06 Libs. I have seen a 06 Lib with 78500 miles with the following info:

-Stock output was 160hp/260ft-lbs, with GDE tune, it now has 200hp/369ft-lbs.
-Excellent condition
-Never smoked in
-Always well maintained
-Have most service records
-Owned by professional auto detailer (always kept detailed and pristine)
-Tinted windows ($75 for front two windows; the rear windows are factory tinted)
-Alpine MP3 CD player/iPod and AUX hook up ($200)
-Green Diesel Engineering HOT tune increased output by 40hp/109ft-lbs[$500] (I presume this is the GDE as mentioned above)
-SunCoast CRD upgraded Torque Converter ($1,300 + professional install)
-Rough Country 3" lift (front coil spacers and rear shocks/coils [$400])
-Cooper STT 245 tires
-1" wheel spacers to help stability and give a more aggressive stance ($200/per wheel)
-Increased flowing exhaust
-Block heater

My question: In your opinion would this be a good buy with the mileage and after market goodies and what price range is a reasonable price :?: :?: :?:

Thanks for any feedback.

That sounds like a good one to get, I am thinking that CRD was even posted on here for sale not too long ago. If he is a member of lost, and he got the engine saving tune, so that is a big help.

I find it interesting what you listed as important features. I tend to focus more on mechanical soundness and preventative maintenance when buying a used vehicle.

Hot tune opinion:
I would avoid anything with a hot tune. Anecdotal evidence on this forum shows a correlation between a hot tune and blown head gaskets. Make sure you check for excess pressure in coolant bottle about minute or two after a cold start.

Turbo cooldowns?
Speak with owner and have him do your test drive so you can observe his habits. Does he allow engine to idle for at least 30 seconds before engaging drive to prolong turbo life? Does he do a minimum 1 minute turbo cooldown before shutting engine off? I have 135,000 miles on my turbo and it has no lateral play and very little axial play....it is as tight as when it was new. I religiously am easy on turbo when engine is cold do a cooldown each and every time. There are folks here who have lost turbos before 100,000 miles.

Oil Weight Used and Oil Change Frequency?
If seller was using 0w40 I'd pass on the vehicle. I personally believe that 0w40 (and/or extended oil change intervals) are the reason for premature valve train wear (rockers, lifters etc..)

If seller followed oil change intervals greater than 5,000 miles, and didn't have EGR disabled with a GDE tune, regardless of oil used, I would run unless seller reduced price to make up for potential premature valve train wear and or damage.

Lift pump?
I feel that a lift pump prolongs CP3 pump and mechanical pump life. I wouldn't buy a used CRD that doesn't have one.

Crank Case ventilation filter:
Every diesel I've ever owned got a crank case ventilation filter to catch oil in blowby gasses that can gunk up intake and reduce intercooler efficiency. If there is no CCV filter and EGR is active, budget an intake cleaning in your future. Not a deal breaker for me.

When torque converter was replaced, did it get the updated front pump? How about a transgo shift kit?

So, the stereo, tint, and other features are nice but what good is all that nice stuff if engine will need 3-5k in repairs before it hits 100,000 miles? I do not know if you do your own maintenance. If so, then it may be worthy of purchase if you get it for a good price. If not, consider a non-diesel.

Good luck!

I follow this forum pretty closely and am not aware of any head gasket issues with the GDE HOT tune. Did I miss something or are you referring add-on "boxes", etc.
