Ok...I'm pretty sure my 2006 Liberty CRD needs new engine mounts, but feel free to let me know if you think it could be something else.

It's just going on 100,000 kms (60K miles).

The last few weeks the engine knocks or rattles as I drive over rolling bumps or humps in the road and when I brake. It's ok at idle after I come to a full stop. Rapid acceleration can get it to rattle a bit too but it's mainly slowing down and over bumps that the noise shows up.

Just wondering if anyone could give me the nod that it's time for new mounts.

And...if it is a failed mount, should I buy the ones on idparts.com or from a different source.

and then....(sorry!)...Is this something I can do myself? I'd rather do it myself but I can't find any youtube video's and so far I see no thread outlining how it's done (but I'll keep looking!). I saw two other members mention that they had completed it in one day so I'm hoping I can get it done as well.

Any help would do, and I'll keep searching the forum for other threads.

Cheers everyone and thanks in advance...I hate to say this but I actually don't hate it when something gets sketchy with my CRD because I love that I can get it done with the help of all of you. It's very groovy! :)

I took the Jeep out for another spin tonight after reading a post where someone suggest getting to 40mph and then shifting to neutral to see if the sound goes away. I tried this and the rattling is still is there.

I can start the jeep without much rattle, but when I put it in to reverse or drive then the rattling kicks in, then it goes away when I get to any speed and then maintain that speed. Then the second I touch the breaks or remove my foot entirely from the accelerator then the rattling starts.

I tried to tighten the nuts on the engine mounts but I couldn't budge them.

Does anyone have any experience with these mounts?

Just a quick update: I've ordered two right side engine mounts and I'll just reuse the heat shield for the left side mount.

I also ordered a new MAP sensor just to be on the safe side.

I'll let you know how it goes. I'll attempt to do it myself. I came across a great right up from GDE that I'll use:

Take a look at this post: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=57017&p=634004

The Harbor Freight 96092 wratchet really helps on the driver's side.

Thanks @ChesterCRD

I just chatted to a Jeep shop in town and they quoted 1.6 hrs to do both of them. I'll just let them have at it. I'm sure it would take me about 4 hours and I'd be swearing the whole time! LOL

Thanks!

It's really easy to replace them if you have the tools. There is a walk through on crd tech with all the details.

I've gone through the walk through and when my dealership quoted 1.6 hrs I figured I'd let them have at it!

Cheers,

What a difference. Just got my Jeep back today and it's so much quieter and much, much smoother.

Next up, find and fix the pulley that is chirping away on the front of the engine!

With 60k miles check your alt decoupler. Also watch your serpentine tensioner. If it is jumping/moving at all it is time for a new one
