I just bought a 2006 CRD with 120k mi on it. it runs like new but looking at the service manual and checking the service record i quickly learn there is some major service items due. i.e TB and while doing TB you are may as well do a bunch of other stuff too:

TB
H2O pump
Thermostat
pulley
tentioner
serp belt
oil change(optional)
trany flush(optional)

I called many jeep places, 2 dealers would not do it cuz they dont have the tools, regular shops wont do it either for the same reason. i got quoted by another dealer for $2k and higher. i end up with Goldstein Jeep in Latham, they quoted $1800. they did a fantastic job-(which means the car drives just the way it was except the engine goes up to operating temperature vs before where my thermostat was shot) it sucks spending that kind of money and not actually gaining any thing back except for piece of mind. i did request old parts to be boxed up so i can share with other ppl who are considering skip changing the TB(bad idea!) just glancing at the belt i thought i can get atlease 100k mi more... but after i look at it closer there are fine cracks everywhere... with luck you prob can go as high as 150k max on those belts... anyway will post pics...

the dealer ship info i service my car is at:
Goldstein Jeep
613 New Loudon Rd, Latham, NY 12110
(518) 785-4156
Ask for Fred in service. if you are servicing your CRD there, he will give you the same mech i used.

good luck.

I did my timing belt at 150,000, but it was only about 4 1/2 years old. Others have had their belt fail before 100,000.

You should add the dealer to this sticky.

Right, what kills a timing belt is age and often start-stop of the engine, highway miles are nothing...

I do all that and have the knowledge of replacing over 30 of these so far, for $1300 with parts. Glad you found a dealer that knew how to do it for less than the $2500 they usually seem to end up with.

Don't think that it is only a mileage scale however - These should be changed after 5 years of service, NO MATTER THE MILEAGE. This is for safety, the cost of a failure is much worse than just changing the belt out.

Mine was just done a week ago at Susquehanna dodge jeep with parts I bought from IDparts
Mine is an 06 currently 94,000 miles on it. It does run smoother which I thought was only my imagination until I seen others say the same here. I have pics of mine and I can't testify to the small wear cracks on the belt. I posted them on the CRd group on Facebook.

The dealer wasn't going to be my first choice but none of the diesel shops in my area inspired much confidence in me that they could do or wanted the work. The dealer I went to turned out to be great. They service a handful of CRd regularly and did several timing belts. They only charged me $636 labor

How much was the whole job? Did you do the whole TB kit with all rollers, tensioner, etc.?

I went to Goldstein as well, and they did a good job. Timing belt was replaced and it runs just like it did before.
