Good morning/afternoon, everyone.
For about a month now I've been getting what sounds like a metal popping noise at about 1-2mph while having my foot barely on the brake. I also believe the noise MIGHT only be happening when the engine and all moving parts are 100 percent warmed up.
When I went shopping yesterday (fishing equipment ) it was the loudest I've heard it. Of the 8 or 9 times I've heard this happen, it MIGHT only be happening at the mentioned speeds but while SLIGHTLY turning right.
I have taken off the wheels already to check for anything obviously stuck and haven't found anything out of the ordinary. If it were something with my brakes I would think I would hear this popping noise at higher speeds, but I don't.
I would highly appreciate any suggestions of what to check or other info that may be needed in order to diagnose. Thanks in advance.

Bump.
I'd like to figure out where to look at for something wrong. Still not sure why a sound like this would only be heard/felt at such a slow speed and not at all when driving fast. I also HAVE NOT heard it while on the brakes in reverse if that helps at all.

My KK CRD is currently at the dealers at the moment with a similar problem, usually for me this is again only at very low speeds. My issue occurs after being stopped & when pulling away - a slight clunk or click.

So far except agreeing there is an issue they cant find anything but I expect eventually they will, I'll keep you posted just incase whatever my problem is points you in the right direction.

Good luck buddy

Thank you for a response!
It's definitely only at those low speeds while being ever so slightly being on the brake.
Have you done any other testing yourself to duplicate the problem?

The Jeep is still at the dealers at the moment as they try to work through & find the problem. So far everything obvious has been checked, even to the point of having their technician driving around using "chassis ears" (magnetic microphone that is connected to headphones for the driver to track down the general area of the noise - as yet no joy.

To me, as the sound is getting worse it sounds as though something is actually flexing on the chassis, from the original slight "pop" its now quite a loud "crack" that happens as I pull away & on braking.

I'll keep you posted as the dealer updates me.

On a positive note, all the time my Jeep is at the dealers I'm driving around in their courtesy car - a brand new Jaguar XF, nice drive, nice place to be but I'm not too sure how well it'll do when I go wheeling in it this weekend

Interesting. The Jag is a nice car. I don't understand how this noise only happens to me when I'm only going 1-2mph while ever so slightly on the brake. I guess I have to take a look at the brakes.

Check the front sway bar end links. They get chatty if they're loose, and hard to detect at higher speeds.

Okay I will give that a look.

Well, 5 days at a (ex) Jeep dealership & still none the wiser. The pop/click/clunk/whatever has proven impossible to find. The loudest it has been detected is when connecting the chassis ears to a bolt that secures the front crossmember up through the chassis. I didn't get any photo's I'm sorry to say.

Apparently what can happen in rare cases is that the captive nut that the bolt secures to inside the subframe / chassis can split 1 or more of its retaining welds / lugs. If this happens, only at low speed (stopping, pulling away) when the load of the vehicle changes it can induce a very small amount of flex that can make the captive nut move against its retainer - Only problem with proving this is that it needs somebody to cut away at the chassis to expose the captive nut! I know everything is tightened to the correct torque throughout the running gear etc.

Understandably on a vehicle outside of the manufacturers warranty (my Jeep is early 2010) the dealer is unable to go any further.

Does anybody have access to the full up to date list of manufacturer advisory bulletins that Jeep have issued for the KK?

Hopefully you're having more luck than me Gage?

Thanks for keeping us updated. Not much luck on my part, just trying to keep duplicating the problem and making sure it doesn't get worse. I should have time this week to try to take a look at the sway bar end links (again).
I still have not been able to get this noise to happen until the engine is fully warmed up. It's not an engine problem, but I guess the sound will only happen when the RPMS are low... I honestly don't even know what side it's coming from or if it's from both.

Well crap. I've been trying to figure out something similar off and on for the last 12k miles. I kind of gave up and was just waiting for it to break. :dizzy:

Thanks for the input. I'm going to take a look at the brakes when I get home. Also going to double check my spacers, too.

I had the same issue on my 2011 Jeep Liberty 2.8 Diesel and service suggested that I should replace the brake pads and disks, however, the noise stopped suddenly, so, I have not repalced them yet.

My brakes look fine. Didn't really drive yesterday so I didn't hear it. If I can't figure it out it might be my front drive shaft cuz that makes a little noise when you grab it, not sure if it's the same noise.
Tomorrow I'll be down the shore for the day. I'm sure I'll hear it eventually while driving tomorrow.

Well I sprayed some WD40 on the front drive shaft all the way on the front. Not sure what that part is called. Haven't heard a noise since. Maybe I just had something caught up in there... I'm not calling it cured yet, but the noise isn't there for now.

Sounds like we all have something in common. My popping and screeching started after I put my rustys 2.5 lift on. After 3k miles its getting worse. Do the pad clips up front( the big ones that don't come with most pad sets) make a big differemnce? Because I noticed I don't have them on mine but I see them in the service manual. No brake drag and I see nothing lose on front suspension. Could it be the sway bar bushings.....?
