Hi

I just pulled my injector out today, one wasn't working anymore... I'm going to get them serviced tomorow.

I was wondering how to clean and if I should recut the seat ? and how to make sure nothing get in the combustion chamber.

The way I cleaned mine, but on a different engine (on crd it wasn't necessary) was to use a gun cleaning kit, I think the. 45 caliber brushes fit pretty well in the hole, and for the injector tip, you may use a. 22 and 9 mil. Also, chinazone harbor freight has a kit of brushes for under 10 bucks, with a screwdriver end and various brushes and extensions that may be a better choice. You may use a drill and in the chuck you could mount the brush with extension and gently brush the soot. Some acetone would help dissolving the soot, and it also evaporates quickly, obviously if there is something very nasty you may need to pull the head out. Some little debris won't hurt the valves.

Wal-mart has a shotgun cleaning kit for $7, I use the big 12-gauge soft mop drenched in brake cleaner to wash out the entire bore.I would avoid using anything on a drill, ditto for the copper brushes. The important part is the flat seat where the copper crush washer contacts, the narrow bore for the tip doesn't really matter - the tip protrudes through it.

It will help reinstallation immensely to dab on some axle grease (bear snot) on the o-ring to help the injector slide in the bore. Put the grease on it AFTER you have put the o-ring on the injector. Otherwise, you possibly won't be able to get a good grip on it to stretch over the injector.

thanks for the answers,

I already have many shotgun cleaning kit, I didn't think about it !!

I brought the injectors for service today, they should be ready for tomorrow they said. I will ask em what kind of grease they use to put the injector back in. and if I should recut the seat !!! the injector 2 and 4 had a little bit of blow back on the stem but it didn't come all the way out.

I think I did a good move to bring the 4 injectors in for service :)

I made a hammer slide puller with a m17 x 1.0 treaded end to pull em out and I modified a 1 1/8" deep impact socket to remove the selenoid head. they came off realy easy :pepper:

Huh? You took the injectors apart while in the engine? You may be getting a good talking-to by the bosch shop, the injectors shouldn't be disassembled as far as I've ever been told.

Meanwhile, you shouldn't need to do ANYTHING about "cutting the seat" on the head. The head is thin enough, and how will you guarantee that you shave it perfectly flat and level? That is what the crush washer is for, to provide the seal. If you had a problem with combustion leaking past the washer and the aluminum is damaged... Then your head will probably need to come out entirely to be fixed. You don't want any bits of aluminum getting into the cylinder, and I can pretty much guarantee that some will if you try to mill the seat with the head in place. If a borescope doesn't show that the injector bore is damaged / burnt physically (I wouldn't think it would be) then all that the injector will need is a good torquing to hold it down and clamp the washer. Don't overdo the torque, but 30-35 lb-ft should be plenty here.
