So I just finished installing a lift, and need to get to alignment shop. But, the toe-in is horrible, and I frankly don't want to drive it above 10mph until I at least eyeball it. The tires are screaming at me and steering is completely awash!! Funny, on my old Suzuki, the tie rod was hex shaped, so you just loosened a nut, put a couple of wrenches on it and start turning away. The CRD tie rod is perfectly round, so I looked at the service manual, and it says to turn the tie rod to adjust toe. Am I missing something? Do I have to push the boot back to access a wrenching spot?? I can't wrench on a round tie rod. :?:

I used vice grips to turn the inner tie rod after loosening the nut. Most aftermarket inner tie rods have a hex section for using a wrench.
To actually measure the toe in, I used a tape measure and measured on the outside edges of the tires. If the numbers for the front and rear of the front tires are within 1/8 inch you should be good to drive to get it aligned.

Maybe one of those strap wrenches if you are worried about chewing it up with vice grips or a pipe wrench.

Okay...that wasn't so bad. I thought sure things would be a little rusted stuck, but the inner tie rod turned fairly easy. The jam nut was on pretty tight, but not too bad. I just wrapped a spot on the tie rod in electrical tape to keep from scratching it up, then grabbed on with some large pliers while I held the outer tie rod in place with a wrench. Got the toe adjusted pretty well by eye. Now, I can drive it to the alignment shop! Jeep looks great lifted!
