Today I started the job of replacing my failed transmission pump and tc. I am down to just the bell housing bolts and it is out. I also removed the transfer case. For those who have done this, how do I get to the two top bolts? Maybe I'm just tired, but I'm looking at this thinking "how the heck do I get those two out?".

Any help would great. Thanks.

I used multiple extensions taped together and tackled the two bolts from back of the tranny, by the rear wheels, facing forward. I was on my stomach since I had no lift to work on. You can see the top bolts from back of the vehicle...used about 3 feet of extensions to get to the bolt.

Hey thanks. I had to run do to the auto parts store to get two 12 inch extensions. Thankfully they weren't too tight.

I got the tranny down and pulled the tc. Guess what, it is the euro tc. It is OK because I'm pretty sure the pump has failed and wore out the tc. Do you think I should open up the pump and do the transgo kit or is it not necessary with the new redesigned pump?

How do you know it's the euro TC? There were no factory markings on them.

The part number was on a sticker on the torque converter, same number as the the replacement. Most likely the old one was fine, it was just a dead pump. The old tc made noise when I spun it and the new is as quite as can be. Probably a worn bearing in the pump maybe.

Thanks for listening and all the help. I replaced the pump, tc, PML deep pan, filters and installed the rest of the transgo kit. I got the transmission back in and it was driving by mid-day Sunday. I drove it most of the day and only a few hiccups, but I think that was air in the system working its way out. Drives great now and I have noticed that it accelerates quicker with less gas being given, so I guess my tc was slipping more than I thought. It was a LOT easier getting it in and then getting it out. It helped having my girlfriend label all the bolts for me.

Is the front pump a bolt in without any adjustment needed? Shimming? Centering with dial indicator? etc.?
