So far it looks to me like I'll go with a combination approach. I'll be getting the eBay rack which will come assembled/welded without mounting. Then I'll get All J to provide the roof mount and weld the rack to the roof mount. This will help immensely, since the All J roof mount replaces the factory side rails and provides cross-rails for support. It uses the factory monting holes that are available once the factory side rails are removed.

I believe Clint posted a picture of his Con-Ferr rack (which All J also sells) at:

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=182121

I kind of like the look of the eBay rack more, just personal preference.

Anyway you look at it, All J or eBay, it beats the heck out of another rack I found --- the Hannibal rack. That one, while beautiful, carries an out-of-this-world price (I guess they can do that since they target Land Rover's). Get this ... $1200 to $1500  for the BASIC RACK. Oh sure, it's nice to have tent on top and awning and stuff ... but geez.

This Hummer guy decided to save a few bucks and use a "rubber mount" to mount his shovel and Hi Lift jack.

http://brandon.fuller.name/archives/200 ... /09.38.45/

That looks scary. He uses two rubber mounts to hold the jack, and two mounts to hold the shovel. God, if they should fail when he's on the freeway, he's gonna kill someone!

All this to achieve a $30 price point?

Jeez, the guy owns a Hummer and uses those cheap stupid mounts! I'd hate to be behind him on the road! Definately an accident waiting to happen. I just hope that if one of those mounts goes, the shovel or highlift stays attached to the other one, swings down and goes through the window of the Hummer!

Hey Cacher,
That basket on your Car Domain site, the one by itself and not on the Jeep, is it the same one on your Jeep? If so, does it come with the cross bars (like in the picture)?

This image is from the manufacturer's site. I posted it for clarity. The cross bars were just shown to show how it mounts. Mine did come with the attachment hardware to attach it TO the crossbars. I cut it down to fit inside my Rennie basket. It is the same basket though.
