I am not sure where to put it, to tell the truth. I tend to think a replacement tank could be made that would not reduce clearance-- the XJ has one available. It is just wider-- it fills the crooks and crannies to the side and goes up against the body tighter- leaving a smaller gap. It gets you an extra two gallons over the stock tank and still accomodates skids. Another option would be to have a smaller specially formed tank sitting in the crevices elsewhere in the undercarriage. Last time I looked under there it seemed like there was empty space, unlike the engine compartment. I am no mechanic so exact placement and how to fill it, feed the fuel from it, and protect it are problems I could not solve, but someone could for lots of $$$. Considering this could be for gassers as well, maybe someone will manufacture such a beast.

Another option would be to loose cargo space and put an auxillary tank in the cargo area behind the rear seat which feeds the main tank below it. I don't blame most for frowning on that idea, but I could see the usefullness of it if it was removable. This option would obviously be diesel only. The other two might be able to work for gassers-- and that would increase the likelyhood of someone making them. This option would be "to order" and would be done at the shop-- not cheap. I would be willing to bet you could get a 10-12 gallon tank back there and still have room for groceries and other stuff. Question is does it lay flat across the floor--letting you stack stuff on top of it- or does it sit upright against the rear seat-- leaving room infront of it? Maybe both in an L, thin across the floor and higher against the seat?

Then again, I will just deal with the jerry cans.
