Today, I went to lunch. On the way back I have completely lost third gear. This is going to make for an interesting drive home for sure. Time to buy that second car I have been pondering. Do I fix the jeep or run it through the auction?

Did the check engine light come on? Any codes?
Trans fluid level normal?

Are you sure its 3rd gear that went out?
The reason I ask is because sometimes when the trans goes into limp mode, you will only get 2nd and 3rd gears. It will feel a little sluggish but you will only feel it shift once.

The transmission can be fixed by any good transmission shop. You will have to take it to a shop so they can do a proper diagnosis and estimate cost.

DONT TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP

Shifts fine first and second. When third comes it is like it was shifted in to nutral, then forth works fine. Driving in the parking garage was um interesting.

No codes no lights at the moment. Checked the tranny fluid and it seemed to be normal. Third has been slipping at WOT, so I have been not doing that. It's been acting very strange in the past week. The plan now is to buy another car in the next few days since this is my only car. Then im going to replace the transmission with low mileage used and then off to the auction. Unless someone on here wants to buy it.

What does the fluid look like, normal red color? Does it smell burnt?

It sure sounds like the 3rd gear clutch burnt up, but if the fluid is not a burnt brown/black color it may not be the clutch. It might only be a simple problem that is cheaper than a used transmission.

Don't run it to auction, offer it for sale here!

What do you want for it?

Transmission completely went out about a mile from work on the way home. At first I was being overly optimistic thinking I could limp it to my gf's apartment complex. I was able to coast it in to a neighborhood and shut it off. I let it sit a while, started it and put it in gear. It just kinda moved slowly, shuttered and then no gear. I had it towed to my house where I am going to replace the transmission with a low mileage used. The crappy part is I JUST replaced the TC/pump and they I am sure have been ruined. I will post here first, but I don't want to sell a non-working car. I am unsure how much I was ask for. Once the transmission is good, it will need nothing.
