So I got a promotion the other day. It's more of a side-motion. I'm the head host at Outback, and they're moving me into take away. It's the next step to becoming a server(I want that, that's where the money is), but it's hit or miss with tips. I'll make more hourly, but some nights I can make more than I would on the host stand, some I can make less.

Either way, I haven't been involved with our menu in a long time and I'm actually kinda nervous about starting my training for it. Especially with knowing the short hand for everything. :banghead: I've been studying the menu since Saturday(I only found out Friday night) and start my training today. It's gonna be a big change, and hopefully worth it.

Congrats! I recently got a promotion, too.
Can't say enough how weird it is being trained when I'm so used to training others.

Thanks! How's it going for you?
It's definitely going to be weird. I mean I know a lot from being there for 3 years, but it's going to be a lot different than what I'm used to. Still nervous, after I prove to myself that I know the menu and everything I'll be fine, but until then... :juggle:

Good to hear! So far my 1st training day was great. Turns out I knew more than I thought lol. It's gonna take some time to get the hang of everything and knowing what goes with what.

silverKK, best of luck with it! Have you started yet?

So I might be able to graduate on time. Only difference is that I won't have a minor. Right now I'm a business management and operations major, minoring in philosophy(was a last minute bs decision that I might change). They just changed the major requirements and I can opt to take an extra class and drop my minor(I'm 1 or 2 classes in out of 6) which would make me graduate on time rather than a year or so later.

So what do you guys think? Should I graduate on time with just a Major, or a year late with a major and minor? How important are minors for getting a job?

If you asked me I would just go with a major. It's a great feeling being done with school.

That's what I'm thinking about doing. I might talk to 1 of my managers tomorrow and get their opinion before signing the papers though. I have til the 31st to have everything in. Then Spring semester I'll take 5 classes and be done with it lol.

I have a degree in Business Management major and work for Bank of America. To be completely honest the minor won't matter to employers. They are looking for that degree when interviewing.

Any ideas what you want to do when you're out?

Not in the slightest lol

BTW, 2nd shift as take away tonight. Went well, my friend said I was a little slow, but nothing to be worried about especially since it was my first time working the kitchen. Should be training again next week. My next shift is a host shift again, so I get to take it easy and pretty much do nothing. Work isn't bad when you know what you're doing :seuss:

I was honestly thinking banking or insurance. Not sure though. I need to intern and figure stuff out. Hopes are to have a 6 figure salary, or at least close. Maybe 85-90k or so. I can dream/hope, right?

There's a lot of guys interning with Bank of America in NYC. Atleast in the commercial bank if you don't screw it up you can start with a nice job and salary out of college.

I think we all dream of a nice salary

I work in the insurance industry now but it was never an area of business I saw myself in. Depending on what area of the industry you get in, you can network with a lot of different people and make some great connections. It's surprising how small of an industry it can actually be.

It's definitely all about who you know not as much what you know.

So true so true!
Doesn't matter how much education you have you still have to get your foot in the door somehow. Meeting people in all walks of life with a wide variety of interests/ positions etc helps in many ways. My last three positions ( since 1998) have come to me from friends telling about a position that opened up that's just right for me. This last one from an old girlfriend who told me the company she worked for would be needing a consultant, so started my own consulting company, presented it to the company and here I am.
Don't get me wrong, you still need that piece of paper to hang on the wall to look good, but connections is what takes you places.

Anyone have a steering wheel cover? Just wanna know if they actually hold up as I've never had one before. I like the black "Jeep" cover, but if it's not worth the $ i'll spend it on something else.
