I received a notification letter of credit card and personal info breach at IDParts.com. What a pain it will be to get a replacement card during the holiday season. If you shopped there, consider doing the same.

Do you know what the time frame is? I bought stuff from them back in June and my card information was used fraudulently in August. My bank cancelled the card before it got out of hand but I wonder if it's related?

I cannot remember if I ever used my credit card there I usually check out with PayPal on there site, but they still have my personal info on file. Now I have to go through my statements and see.

I lose a card or 2 every year due to CC fraud and online shopping, nothing new. I guess that explains the fraudulent charge I got about a month or two ago? :5SHOTS:

My letter says the breach occurred Jan 2014. They took their time to discover it and send notifications.

So, Home Depot provided a year of free identity protection for their breach https://homedepot.allclearid.com/

I wonder if IDParts will do anything to stand behind affected customers?

I personally have lost 4 different cards just THIS YEAR, and one particular replacement card has already been stolen again, when I only used it at 4 different merchants, none of which were IDparts. My family has another 4 cards to add to the list, again, just this year alone.

I think the data breaches are happening upstream of the merchants as well as in their own systems. I don't care about the "identity protection" that HD offers, it is crap, they all are. I've actually already been the victim of ID theft, and I learned how useless those services are. The credit agencies are the only ones that can do anything to try and prevent fraudulent damage from ID theft, but since there isn't any penalty to them for incorrect information... They don't care to do anything about it.

Just keep swapping card numbers, it is the only way to fix the problems.

Just got a call from the "monitoring" service my card issuing credit union uses asking about 3 identical $49+ charges at a HD in California where my card number was scanned at the store. Needless to say I wasn't in CA at the same time I was shopping in Publix in Tallahassee, FL. No hassle, charges were never allowed to hit my account, waiting on new card. Seems to happen about once a year.

For what it's worth for "family" credit cards my CU continues to maintain a single account for billing purposes but issues cards with different numbers to my wife and myself. Neat as if one card is compromised we can still use the other one while awaiting a replacement. Further our debit cards, also different numbers, can also function as credit cards.

Why should they stand behind it, they did not commit fraud, and your credit card company will not make you pay for fraudulent charges. Just think only a couple of years ago getting parts for our CRDs was either difficult or expensive. They are not the first site I ever get a credit card hacked over and not the last. But they are the first to ever send me a letter about it.

Maybe we need congress to do a full investigation?

Apple pay style is the future of lowering the fraud, and I'm not joking. Also, we are way back vs Europe, where the chip in the card can't be read as easily as the magnetic tape.

Crap! At the end of October I shopped at Home Depot and ordered my timing kit from id parts.

This weekend I had a notice of suspicious actvity on my card. (a $1 purchase on overstock.com). Traced back purchases and a purchase on steam for 299 on Nov9. Returned on Nov11? So it was a relatively nice person who got my numbers. New card on its way.

I normally never buy from an online merchant unless they do PayPal. I try my best to never use a credit card unless it is the only recourse to purchase an important item that I need!
Never ever had a breach using PayPal for many years now....

Home Depot breach had nothing to do with online purchases, they broke into corporate computers and got customer credit cards from "physical" buyers, not only online. That's why it was so bad. I shopped multiple times at Home Depot, so far I'm good, but keep looking at statements every few days. With the risk of sounding like an apple boy geek, that apple pay is way more secure than any credit card purchase. I one use it as often as I can.

My PayPal got hacked this year. IMO a bigger PITA than something happening to my credit card. Yes, both have a money back fraudulent guarantee... but PayPal's process of reimbursement is too lengthy, especially if you're unlucky enough to get hacked in the middle of making a major purchase.

Paypal is attached to you bank account, I am not sure why it would make you feel so warm and fuzzy if or when it gets hacked? Credit cards are no big deal, I never paid for a fraudulent charge, and got a new card in a couple of days. I just got a Google Wallet card, it is an empty mastercard that you fund with another credit card or bank acct. (thats not happening), has fraud protection as well, give me another layer between my actual credit card and the bad guys.

Does it auto-fill from the other card, or do you have to pre-fill it like most other pre-paid visa cards?

I want to say October 2015 is when the U.S. will finally join the rest of the world with the chipped cards. The U.S. is one of the worlds worst when it comes to cc fraud.

Yes, it just takes the money from the credit card like paypal would do.

I have gotten to the point where I just have a separate credit card in my surname, Bob instead of Robert, so when it gets hacked I do not have to redo all my monthly auto pays with a new card. I use the card exclusively for online shopping.
