Just completed the followings:

New Timing Belt
New Water Pump
New TB idlers
New TB tensioner
Installed ARP studs (130/125 ft lbs)
New injector crush washers and rubber debris washers
Installed WEEKS KIT-
Removed EGR,
removed EGR Cooler,
Removed Flow Control Valve,
removed cooler to valve block.
Removed water line running from EGR cooler to WP inlet. Plugged both ends.
Installed WEEKS KIT.
Installed new Alternator dampener
Installed new fan clutch
Installed new drive belt
Drained coolant and went back with new G-05 Zerex at 70% concentration.
------------
Made my own alignment pins for valve cover installation (M-8/1.25 x 2.5")
Made radiator drain valve opener from hex wrench cut to length
------------
Geordi was a great help and support. Could not have done this without his board entries and support. Others helped as well through their contributions to the board.
-------------
Hardest part-reinstalling the valve cover by myself!! Must use grease on rockers and alignment pins.
--------------
Timing is easy - crank set at 90 Degrees ATDC, align fuel pump witness mark to mark on engine, pins were already in E/I cams, install belt, tension so rod is in tensioner window, remove E/I pins, rotate by hand two revs, retension, done.
--------------
The turbo is free to breathe now! Lots of power and more peppy. Getting the EGR out physically gives maximum boost to the turbo.
-------------
ARP studs give me comfort and hope of never having a leaking or blown head gasket.
-------------

Well...lots of work but fun and challenging. Used a combo of the FSM and this board for torque values. You will need a good 50-250 torque wrench for the ARP studs. You will need a smaller torque wrench for all other torquing.

Congratulations taroo.

Any pictures of the finished product that you'd like to share?

We always love seeing the end results.

Could not agree more!!!!
Did same stuff, except put on new head gasket after having head and valves cked by machine shop. Also put in new thermostat and cut out the mufffler and cat.
A bit disappointed that I did not pick up any MPG. Have 22MPG on both CRD's with GDE tune. A friend has one with 175K and he gets 29-30 and has no tune, nada. No mods, timing belt at 150K because I harrassed him to have it done. Go figure. Marine diesel is at 2.35Gal. down here. That s better than good!!!!!

So....question. Been running around in the CRD and is more peppy and will check the mileage over time. I believe the Turbo is free to breathe now. I hear it whistling, not whining, not grinding, just whistling and purring on spin up and spin down. I checked with Geordi on this and since there is no grinding, whining, etc then it is just a liberated (no EGR or Flow Control Valve) to interfere. Just the turbo, CAC hoses, and intercooler between it and the intake at the valve cover.

So, back to my question...have others with WEEKS Kit and total bypass or removal of the EGR system (EGR, EGR Cooler, FCV, etc) hear their turbo more?

I have read the board back to 2008 on the pros/cons of no EGR as it relates to Boost positive pressure, boost negative pressure, and Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT). As an aside, I am considering the Weeks vent pod with a Glow Shift gauge.

So, just looking for the experiences in Turbo whistling sound changes with the installation of the Weeks Kit.

Mine both seem to have more of a roar to them with out the restrictions in place any more.

Adding my Kudos to this thread.. to everyone that posts back on any Help Me!! Thread with there insight and knowledge.

I did a bunch of similar work with the addition of Rockers and Head gasket a little over a month ago, and would have been lost without the help of this Forum.

Still waiting for the Life Membership to open up again so I can contribute in some way .

If I could buy everyone a Beer that helped me along the way I would

Happy Holidays to all , and Cheers for a New Year!!!

Mecne,

Read your thread and was feeling for you in your experience. I so thought I was going to have to pull the head as well when I put the intake, belt, etc back on and attempted two manual revolutions to hit a hard stop at 270 degrees! (I also had a puffing sound coming out of a injector luckily to find I had forgotten to torgue it down) My stomach sank and I read your thread. Luckily, I pulled the intake and saw I had knocked a rocker off so used alignment pins and monkey grease (on rockers) and got it on and all was well.

Anyway....your thread helped me just so you know. Lots of good heads on this board. Now to find someone with a machine shop to pick up on the t-stat mod that the fellow who moved to Australia started.
