Hello!

I'm a newbie both in Jeeps and in diesels. First time owner for both.

I bought the CRD back in November, and so far I'm enjoying it, despite the shortage of cash to invest in it.

I have been reading a lot of the forum, since even before buying the jeep, but there are some things that I need to ask you experts:

1. why can't I get the error codes on the dashboard? I try the "turn your key back and forwards 3 times" thing, with no luck. There is this video of this guy on youtube, but I cannot get the same result: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGrPBBzp7wE
2. how can I know if my glow plugs are 7v or 5v?

Facing the Ottawa winter with no glow plugs is being... challenging... let's say.

Thanks a lot!

The "3 times turn key code trick' does not work on the 06 KJs and I think not on the 05 as well.
I think they brought back this trick on the KKs though.

Check the tags on the end of the glow plugs....should be white or red....red is for 5 volts I believe :?

Hi neighbour, here's a good summary of what to look for and where to look:

viewtopic.php?p=822795#p822795

Do you suspect your GP's are bad? These vehicles don't do too well in the cold regardless of the glow plugs and they only get worse with age. I'd expect it to struggle a bit with the temperature we had yesterday morning. You'll see lots of cold start questions at this time of year.

Thanks for the link, neighbour!

The full story goes as follows:

Bought the car North of Montreal, no check engine lights or whatever.

Went for safety and e-test, had to do some work on it - as one would expect.

When I got the car, CEL was on. Got back to the mechanic, and he read:

-glow plugs 2, 3 and 4 not working
-major leak on fuel line

He tried resetting, but it would not go away. Weird, since he did not noticed anything while fixing the other items for safety.

I have not yet dealt with any of these things, but I'm researching the be$$$t way forward.

Yesterday was quite something. Cranking the car after 6 hours parked, it broke my heart!

Sounds very strange for 3 glow plugs to all go down at the same time. What work did you have done on the vehicle? Did you have it into a dealer?

Yes, it sounds fishy to me also.

I took it to a supposed diesel specialist at Bronson. I just wanted to get the car safetied and hit the road. Didn' t liked the way the guys works, though. Plus I get CELs after the guy touches the car...

Do you have someone/somewhere that actually knows how to deal with CRDs? I'm still on a quest for reliable labour, while I cannot do the services myself.
