what types of coils struts and shocks should I get? I want the quick strut and coil assembly but and the only ones that I can find on rock auto are Gabriel's and sensen. I heard that monroe shocks and coils are good but they don't sell them on rock auto and I don't know the part numbers to them.

Bilstein 4600 series.

More specifically:

Strut - 24-139168

Shock - 24-139175

Summit Racing sells both, you might be able to find them cheaper online, you usually pay more for good customer service IMHO though.

Bilsteins are probably the best shock for the money hands down. The Monroe's are good shocks, don't get me wrong, but don't hold up or perform as well overall as the Bilsteins.

If you really feel like spending some money, and want the best money can buy for offroad, racing, etc. then buy the Koni Red Shock and Strut sets that they sell on IDParts. Those are some of the best money can buy, but you're paying for racing, off-road, adjustable rebound, etc. on those, very expensive.

:2cents:

I would love to get bilsteins but for around 340 for all the shocks and struts seems a bit expensive.

Hexus,

These replace the OE, factory springs/shocks...IE..they don't add any lift height?

Do they last longer (no sag)

Last I checked, quick-struts were not available for the CRD. Only for the V6.
The CRD uses a heavier spring.

I recently installed KYB shocks in the front. I dont like them at all. Not enough dampening.

Oem for about 80-ish a spring. My advice: get old man emu lift kit, that's what I'll do. I had the front springs replaced with new oem a year and 2 months ago, about 10k driven and front springs sagged about 1/2 inch already. Oem not worth even 10 bucks imo.

I just put the OME kit on last week. The CRD eats up the road now. I can't believe how bad the OEM setup was.

The OME kit does not come assembled. I took my old assemblies to les Schwab and they put them together for $60 in about 2 hours.

60 bucks ain't bad for the amount of work... Will get the ome from weeks. Btw, did you replace Uca with jba a arm?

I would love to get the ome kit but I also have to replace the lower control arms and I want to get the GDE tune. I don't know how much my tax return is going to be but I can't see it being more than 13 to 1400.

Not yet. Still OEM. When the upper BJ's gets loose, I will be sure to use JBA UCA's.

Has anyone figured out if there is a 5100 series front strut for the CRD? The bilstein catalogs only list 4600 series data, and no lifted Libbey data. But JBA shows 5100 series rear shocks for lifted CRD, and their coilovers look like 51xx series struts. ( no part numbers listed)

would the ome lift last a long time with the JBA arms? if i get the lift and all the front control arms I won't be able to get the GDE tune soon. I'm building my jeep up but I also deploy to korea in about 5 months for about 9 months. would I come back to the suspension sagging?

Have had Bilsteins on over 35 street vehicles and several race cars in the last 40 years, so I qualify as experienced. I have had two sets of the same Bilsteins on our KJ CRD. They are perfect for about the first 5000 miles, then the fronts, in particular, lose rebound damping. Many Bilsteins can be revalved by them, but the KJ front shock/strut they make supposedly cannot be disassembled and revalved. The rears can be revalved. At this point, I would like 10% more rebound on the rears and 25% on the fronts.
There are gas adjustable Konis, but I think they are in the $600-$800 range.

So are we down to OME and JBA coil overs as the preferred coil/shock upgrades for the CRD? I haven't heard much feedback about ironman. ..

I'm sure Ironman springs are good.
I don't think they make a CRD specific spring however.

The "c load" by ironman is the CRD springs.
