It came with one, it is called an INTERCOOLER.

After the cold air intake, you can add one of those ugly rear wings and maybe a couple of stickers.

The air intake is out in front at the edge of the grill, any normal CAI for a gasser would just be a waste of $$$$ on this diesel. A snorkel would be good for fording rivers.

One would have to say, "This sticker adds 5 ft/lbs of torque" Since hp ratings are not as appropriate for diesels...
:)

Seriously, a K&N and/or straightening out the input for the air box (which is a little restrictive) would seem to be the best intake mods on the libby if you want to modify something. Cold air would mostly just be a liability ( I did a really good job totalling my integra that way driving through rain durring a hurricane ).

Nothing you will be able to do will improve anything for air flow, and adding a K&N filter is about the worst thing you can waste your money on for any diesel that is for sure. See the ISO Test of Airfilters in GM Duramax Diesel of various filters against the OEM airfilter for the GM turbodiesel PU Truck.

Dude,
Yeah waste your time and keep looking for a cold air intake.
You could like get an INTERCOOLER jacket and fill the lining with liquid nitrogen to cool it. Now that would be totally awesome! Something like -273 degrees Farenheit or 0 degrees Kelvin. Whoaa thats like really cold.
Seriously, do you even own a CRD? Sometimes I think an actual VIN number should accompany each post so that you can sort out the poser's vs actual owners.

Maybe he is coming from a gasser where more air equals more power. Diesels are a different animal and the logic does not carry over. I thought it was a legitimate question for someone new to the diesel world, which most of us are.

Here's a cheap way to make the intake less restrictive: http://liberty.eurekaboy.com/airboxmod.htm

These kind of mods were tried on all kinds of turbo cars and they never really made any measurable hp increase or MPG improvement. People seem to not understand how a turbo diesel works, but if you want to do it and it makes you feel good then go for it dude.

You know, there are other forums where snot-grams like this are common. Which is why I don't frequent them anymore. It was a legitimate question. MAybe when you turn 17 you'll realize that.

Your right, shame on my arrogance suggesting that some posters here are poser's and my disdain on others who purchase technology which they have no clue on how it works and then whine.
That's just down right wrong, mean and politically incorrect. I apologize.

The general rule with a Diesel is "Open it up and let it breathe", mostly for heat removal, this means on both ends, intake and exhaust. With the turbo chargers and the intercoolers the manufacturers do a pretty good job these days on the intake side of things. However the exhausts are where gains can be made in air flow and heat removal. I would look into a more open muffler than the stock one.

If it is better to open things up and let it breath. Would it be detrimental to lengthen the intake like adding a snorkel would?

Snorkel would not have any real effect except to help fording rivers. As mention elsewhere the cheapest and best mod you can do is open up the exhaust on a turbo diesel.

Boxhead, this poster who blasted the legitimate question came from the forum nicknamed here as the "village idiot" forum. It seems the posters from Edmunds have discovered this site.
