When is the next time these tools will be available to rent? I'm doing an overhaul on my friend's CRD soon.

Right now the 24th at the soonest. You can add your email to be notified when they are available.

Thanks, I just didn't want to be waiting for a month or two on that list not knowing. ;) Can I book the 24th in advance or is it first come, first serve?

For the time being it's first come first serve until I figure out a better system. I did just order more tools, so I will have more sets available soon. For now, keep an eye out for the notification email around the 24th.

Adding another set of tools to inventory, but the tensioner wrench is on national 18-week back-order. I finally found someone who had one in stock, so I'll have another set of tools available later this week/early next week at the latest. Another set is due for return around the same time.

Would anyone be interested in this tool as an alternative to the factory vm 1085 cam sprocket holding tool? These were designed and are being manufactured at my facility. Let me know what you think.

I think those are way better than miller...what would be a price you sell it for?

I like the nice simple, solid design. Personally I'm not interested in the tool as I'm quite happy with my home made sprocket buster. For my sins I own 3 vehicles that utilize timing belts and having a generic tool rather than an expensive custom tool for each makes more sense.

Did you consider adding a tab to the top so that it can be secured to the inner timing cover like the VM tool? I think this would make it a bit easier to use as it currently appears to rely on having some torque against the pulleys/belt to stop it from falling off.

Compared to the VM tool it appears to be a steal but it's only recently the the VM tool has been commanding crazy prices in the $600-$700 range. Not too long ago that tool retailed for around $230. My own feeling is that your price is quite steep for what it is.

That's just my opinion but I'm sure many of the guys here will love it and buy one.

Good luck!

Actually, I sell my T11085 Cam Sprocket Holding Tool for $250 directly. They are $279 on eBay since they get 10% in fees. We have our own version of the VM.1052 and VM.1053 camshaft alignment pins as well for $24 each.

You can pick up complete pin kit that looks identical to the kit sold under the Sealey brand for about $40 shipped.

e.g. http://www.ebay.com/itm/JEEP-CHEOKEE-20 ... 09&vxp=mtr
or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Diesel-Engine-T ... ls&vxp=mtr

This set includes the two cam pins, crank pin and a tensioner tool. There's also a couple of balance shaft pins not required for our engine.

I understand there are kits available for ordering that may be slightly cheaper. Believe it or not, some people still purchase mine for the simple fact they are dealing directly with me and my tools are made in the USA not China. There's usually always a "cheaper" solution to a problem in the short term.

Would you be willing to do the cam pins in 7/16 20 tpi?

Sarge and I together have a set of tools that will do the trick. Folks near Portland, OR who needed to borrow them could do so for some kind of refundable deposit* as far as I'm concerned. I don't want them walking away, but I don't need to make a profit either. PM me if you need something.

*Not acceptable as a deposit: cats, children, slugs, empty beer cans, old lottery tickets, tissue paper, OEM head bolts, water, magazines.

The vm.1085 tool.. is it really necessary? I found this tool; http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TP ... 3GRYMTMJJA

I have seen this used on the 4cyl gas engine, which has the same timing belt set up. While I am not a mechanic, I am mechanical. What makes the vm1085 necessary over the referenced tool used ?

regards, dw

No, it's not. That or one of the other many pulley holding tools out there is fine. Note that the VM tool not only holds the pulleys but also locks them together. You're more likely to end up with the timing slightly off with the cam holder. Just make sure that you rotate the engine a couple of times and recheck the timing and tension and re-adjust if necessary.
