So, I finally got my trailer brakes working, perfectly as fast as I can tell. A lot of help came fromhttp://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f202/ho ... kes-26895/.

But now I notice that the cruise doesn't work, where it used to work just fine. I can't get the CRUISE label to come on when pressing the ON switch on the top left of the wheel. I expect that it will turn out to be the connection to the brake light wire (white/tan at the brake light switch). I assume that the brake controller (Tekonsha Prodigy P2) is drawing just enough power to make the Jeep think that the brake pedal is always depressed. To troubleshoot this, I will cut that wire and insert a crimp-on blade connector inline so they I can easily disconnect, then reconnect it.

Assuming that the problem is as I surmised above, do any of you have any idea how I can get around this problem? I depend on the cruise control, and can't see doing long distance travel with my Casita without it.

Thanks in advance,
Ed

Leave wiring as-is, try Cruise with trailer disconnected

Thanks, GMTCD. That was the first thing I tried. No change.

Ok - that indicates some thing you did while rewiring caused the failure, as you suspected
- disconnect one wire at at time, trying Cruise after each disconnect until function resumes

Hint: Cruise does not enable while sitting in driveway

Alternately, if you have not, download the FSM here

http://colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/

Has correct trailer wiring info for your KJ in the wiring section 8W-54

If it thinks the brakes are applied and thus insta-canceling cruise control, would it not also be activating the brake lights?

Factory tow wiring is isolated thru relays - his post indicates he may have attempted direct-connection
- if so, should be fairly simple to strip factory tow-harness from a bone-yard donor
- spark-infested KJ should be same as Diesel

Well, it appears I spoke prematurely. Without the trailer connected, the cruise does work. Now I guess I'll have to contact Tekonsha and see what they have to say. If I find out anything, I'll post the resolution. If not, I'll look into adding a relay or opto-isolator or something.

Add relays...one for each light function ie, brake, rear light, turn signal left, turn signal right. That is how the factory tow package works.

The brake switch actually has three switches intergrated into it.....one is for the brake lights only, one for cruise control and the third if I remember correctly cross-checks with a switch on the brake master cylinder that everthing is in order. :?
