I have a CEL that has been diagnosed as code P1140. Oldnavy, if I remember correctly, you posted that a replacement EGR flow control valve corrected this issue for you. So, I decided to visually inspect this part on my CRD. If I have identified this component correctly (as I struggle to recall your description of this device and it's location) it seems that my control valve is seeping oil!
My dealer has been discussing my error code p1140 with DC for a week now. Today, they called and said they have decided to replace my EGR valve itself instead of the flow control valve. Oldnavy or any others that may have similar symptoms, please offer any thoughts you may have as to:
1) In your opinion, is the EGR valve replacement the appropriale solution to code p1140?
2) Why is my flow control valve seeping oil?
3) If this is engine oil caused by this engine's ccv design, has anybody cleaned their intercooler, plumbing and flow control valve of this oil accumulation? Thanks in advance for your comments.

I too have a CEL that is hard to fix, p0101 and 0105. I think it's my flow control valve, because it is full of oil. anyway, just make sure you are getting egr number 5142812AB, not ...AA. as it is the latest revision.

Yep that is the one D/C said to replace as it is a code # for older gasser throttle body valve that hasn't been changed over in the system. They replaced the Flow Control Valve and no more CEL. The tech even tested it by unplugging the old one on the engine and plugging inthe new one and then clear the CEL and it didn't come back on. When he plugged it back into the old FC Valve it threw a code so he new he had the problem cured. Now the young tech that worked on our CRD is a real diesel tech and does most of the diesel work at dealership and knows of the oil problems with the CCV diesels which includes MB which he is certified on, not to mention Cummins. This dealership has all the Dodge & Sprinter business in about a 150 mile radius, with some coming from big city dealers where diesel is not spoken except by sales staff.

It will do no good to clean until you vent it to air of install a filter of some type. I will be testing a new filter this weekend that filt under engine cover and requires no extra plumbing required and less then 5 minute install.

Thanks Oldnavy and Ripple.

With the dealer electing to replace my EGR valve rather than the flow control valve, do you believe that I will likely still get the CEL which will probably then require them to replace the flow control valve?

Oldnavy, please let us know how the filter installation goes, and how we can get our hands on one! After installation, will you be able to clean your system of oil accumulations?? Thanks again guys.

He will no be able to clear code if he replaces the EGR and it's the EGR Flow Control Valve, then they will have to order the FC Valve.

I will keep everyone posted as to how the filter works on this 1400 mile weekend trip to the GTG in MI for VW diesels, when it gets here today I will put a clear plastic hose on to replace the OEM hose so I can see how much oil is flowing through to the IC into intake. I will take as many pictures as possible, except of the actual filter. If the test goes ok I think the mfg is going to trademark the unit or patten it, and then try to get D/C approval as for as warranty purpose or possibility of getting them OEM installed. I think a selling point might be the posibility of cleaner burning engine because of no dirty engine oil being burned.

Which part is that? The three parts they replaced on mine this week:

5166555-AB : VALVE EGR 14038024
5142815-AA : GASKET EG 9001004
5142799-AA : VALVE EGR 14033001

Good question, I don't think I've seen the 5142812AB part number before on an EGR thread.

The AB is the "new & improved model EGR" replacing earlier AA model.

More than the "AB" is different in that part number. Did a search, and 5142812AB is only mentioned in this thread. Only Ripple has posted that number. So, are there three revisions, or is 5142812AB not an EGR valve?

Later,
One mopar parts site lists it as an EGR "Kit."

I just learned that the part number I posted is the EGR body block. the EGR ELECTRONICS are a separate part with a different PN. will update next wednesday when I have mine replaced. apparently, it is not very clear on the parts computer that the electronics are separate.

I was just at the dealer this week with a P1140 code. They ordered a new Flow Control Valve.
I was told they were backordered, I'm waiting to hear from them.

Well, part# 5166555AB is the EGR valve. Mine was replaced today and code p1140 didn't go away. Oldnavy was right, and the flow control valve is now on order...
