I have an 05 CRD and am having trouble reading my codes using scan tools. After I could not connect with my son's (a mechanic) scanning tool but it works on his GM vehicle. I did research on found that the "vehicle emission control information" does not indicate my vehicle id OBDII certified. Has anyone else run into this and is there a workaround? Any thoughts appreciated. :ALONE:

I own a actron scan tool purchased from advance auto parts. I can read codes and delete them. It will not however read live data for some reason.

The OBDII issues with this vehicle are well documented. Different aftermarket scan tools work to varying degrees. If you get no response whatsoever, be aware that Chrysler completely broke the protocol at one point and had a recall to fix it some time in 2006. You may be missing this recall.

Torque Pro and an android device w/Bluetooth ELM327 works fine for reading/clearing codes. I just ordered a $10 obd2 USB cable and got TorqueScan to see how that works.

05s seem to have worse issues with scan tools, the 06 models are on the CAN protocol, 05 is iso 9140 or something like that.

1rstly - Specifically specify the specific 'scantool's you are having trouble with

2ndly - All of these are functional on my APRIL '05 KJ CRD:
AUTEL MaxiSYS-PRO
AUTEL MaxiDAS780
DCJ DRBIII
*DCJ STARSCAN - '06 CRD's only
ScangaugeII
AUTOENGINUITY Global
AUTOENGINUITY Enhanced
ECU Titanium
VagCom
Elm327
GDE ALIENTECH programmer\scantool

3rdly - NONE are good for over-the-road live data, '05 and '06.......ever!!

Or - ALL are problematical for over-the-road live data, '05 and '06.......always!!

4rthly - Cheap 'scantools' are for spark-infested vehicles, eh...........

* No VIN selection for the '05 CRD's
