I don't see how ARP studs could contribute to a cracked block, when the head is so much weaker and can be crushed by too much stud pressure.
That said - the cracked blocks all seem to have been at the back end (of course!

) and into a water jacket. This engine *might* allow that to be fixed, since the block itself shouldn't be responsible for retaining the combustion pressures and booms... Just the water pressure since the water jacket is outside the cylinder liners. Thankfully, the cylinder liners are stronger steel and not the cast pig iron that the block seems to be.
Whether the blocks can be welded or if these leaks are a good candidate for JB Weld (A cracked Caterpillar block IS one of their marketing stories)... I don't know. I haven't personally seen or messed with any of them yet.
