How To: Replace Rear Wiper Blade

Purchase one rear 12 inch blade for less than $10.

Remove cap on rear blade. Pull away from the Jeep.

13mm socket.

Underneath the cover. The old blade pulls right out.

Compare the two.

Install and check operation. The new blade pops right in there without much effort.

Nice write up, Gage. This is simpler and more painless than how I did it. I'm going to try your method next time.

I'm just trying to remember when was the last time I actually used that rear wiper haha. I hate that it just smears dirt and it doesn't do much for visibility. I also use my side mirrors more than the rear mirror though too haha.

I think it works well, especially with the new and working blade.
Like you, also use my mirrors a ton since I always back it in when I park.

Tried the K.I.S.S. method on the write up.
So glad it was easy. Front wipers are always a pain for me. First time I've changed a rear wiper since my last car didn't have one. I've thought about deleting it like Tom has done, but I for now I like it being there and functional.

same. I use rain-x water repellent on all of my windows, so it really helps with the water and to some extent, dirt. defrosters are really nice!

Nice write up, but it can be done even simpler than this; You don't have to remove the wiper arm.

1. Tilt the wiper arm away from the body of the Liberty.

2. Slide a *work glove protected* hand in between the wiper blade and the arm housing.

3. grasp the blade as close to the mount point as possible and pull it away from the arm housing. It should pop right out. If a hand doesn't work, a flat head screwdriver can provide more leverage and is more precise.

4. Take the new blade, and pop it into place, pressing the center of the blade head into the housing. You will hear it snap in.

The only tool you really need is a good pair of work gloves to protect your hands, but if you don't have gloves, a flat head screwdriver will easily slide in and provide the leverage to pop the blade out.

Pretty old thread but thought that I say I agree with you; it isn't necessary at all to get tools out and remove the rear wiper blade arm from a 2012 Jeep Liberty. I simply used a flat blade screwdriver, as you suggested, from the end (passenger side of vehicle) of the wiper arm and the wiper popped right out and the replacement popped right back into place. Using a screwdriver, I didn't even need gloves.
