The 1/4 inch Strut plates from Rocky Road aren't the same as the OTT lift that causes all the problems - the one that causes the problems is the 2 inch thick OTT strut top plate that Rocky Road also makes called the 'Budget' lift.

The 1/4 inch strut plate has no effect on the distance that your strut moves, as it's outside the spring/strut assembly. With most lifted KJ's, the a-arm will bang into the spring at full droop, that's why the Frankenlift has the little polyurethane stops clamped to the side of the spring - to cushion the blow.

The noise you are hearing may be a worn ball joint too - so might pay to have those checked.

My KJ is just over a year old with less than 9500 miles on it. Is it possible the ball joint failed so soon or would it have failed due directly to the upper arm contacting the spring? I am going to bring it into the stealership on monday and I am wondering what my chances are for them fixing it.

I'm also curious what exactly is the problem everyone has with the RRO - OTT lift. I've had it on my Jeep for over 3 years now, with 33 x 10 tires, and had no problems with it (and I wheel it pretty hard). (My upper ball joints went due to the angle, but that would happen with any lift). You guys are changing the wheel offset aren't you? (or using spacers?). I went with a 0 offset, which brought the wheel out 41 mm, and had no banging or clunking. FWIW, I don't have any banging with my factory wheels (and 30" winter tires) either, and I found it gave me about 3" lift on the front (~ = 4" on a lowered KJ).

Just curious what all the fuss is about.

33's ! how much did you have to cut out of the wheel wells? How high is the lift? We're running BFG A/T's 245/75/R16 on stock rims for the street. Run 245/75/R16 Rubi tires/rims for the trail - originaly with the RRO OTT.

OTT = Garbage
Frankenlift = Best darn lift out there
Rusty's 2.5" Suspension = Best bang for your buck (don't install an ARB will sag quickly)
Superlift = Vaporware
