I have to say, I like that kick out design. As a father of kids, one of whom rides in a child seat, lifting little ones in and out of the back of the Liberty can be difficult. It's even harder once you install a lift, and the stock plastic runners are too small and slick to be useful as steps. Having a big wide tube to step on is a nice addition, although riveting some aluminum diamond plate to the top of it (cut in a shape to fit the kickout) would be a nice addition in that it would prevent accidental step-through issues.

I'll be interested to see the other design too.

I've been working on the new design, I'm sending the fill plates off to the parts cutter soon.
Here they are as flat cutouts in CAD

I have the order for the filler plates in with the cnc cutter, probably another month or so till I start building them.
