Check the plug first, lube shops strip them out often. Usually they replace them if they do and charge you for it.

According to the SM you have to remove the front axle assembly, as well as lifting the engine a bit to remove the oil pan. You also have to remove the pickup tube before the pan will come out.
OIL PAN - 4x4
Disconnect Battery.
Install Engine Support Fixture 8534. (I priced this at $1,278)
Raise and support vehicle.
Remove front wheels and tires.
Remove skid plate (if equipped).
Drain engine oil.
Remove engine to transmission structural cover, (if equipped).
Remove transmission oil cooler line bracket.
Remove the front axle assembly from the vehicle.
Loosen both engine mount through bolts.
Lower the vehicle.
NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the viscous fan , or fan shroud, for oil pan removal.
Raise the engine using Engine Support Fixture 8534, until the viscous fan almost touches the fan shroud.
Raise the vehicle.
Remove the oil pan bolts.
Separate the oil pan from the engine.
Remove the 2 nuts and 1 bolt holding the oil pump pick-up tube, and windage tray in place.
NOTE: It will be necessary to move the oil pan from side to side to gain access to these fasteners.
Drop the oil pump pick-up tube into the oil pan, and remove the oil pan, pick-up tube, and the windage tray, as an assembly, from the front of the vehicle.

Now that you know what is involved, you can decide if you want to DIY it or have it done.

Thanks scar0. Although I did read elsewhere that you can apparently get away without lifting the engine. The pan comes out easier if you lift it, but it can be done without. Supposedly.

I may check into the costs of having it done. I'm going to have my hands full enough with the lift, not sure I also want to take this on. We'll see.

I have not tried it either way. Fingers crossed, I hope I don't have to in the near future.
Keep us posted on what you decide to do. If you do it DIY you can take lots of Pics and post about it in the Tech section. 8)

I'm having it installed for me at the same time as the lift. My schedule just isn't going g to allow me the time to do it myself, but I can pay to have it done. One of the guys in my local 4x4 club is a mechanic and has done lifts for other members. I'm giving the whole shebang to him to install.
