Hi All,

Can you help me please. Looks like my Jeep dealer can't quote me anymore for doing the Timing Belt service on my CRD 2.5 as the New Jeep Dealer system won't quote him the time time necessary to do it or a Price to do it as my KJ isn't listed anymore as it's over 10 yr old!!! Does anyone know what is the time required do do this job by Jeep so that I can let him know and he can work it out? I assume CRD 2.8 engine time are going to be very similar to the CRD 2.5....Could do with some kind of official copy of a document or so.

Tks,

Fil.

Chilton says 3.8 + 0.5 for the tensioner which is about right based on my experience.

...but really, if they can't come up with a number based on their experience and the description of the work from the FSM or worst case just charge you actual hours then they don't deserve your business :banghead:

What next? "Sorry Sir, we shredded our copy of the FSM last year!" :ROTFL:

Any decent shop over there will have done tons of timing belts on diesels and should be able to do yours in 4 hours. It's not difficult, just follow the process.

That is right, this is my Jeep Dealer I have take ti them for the last 5 yr !!!!!
When I went there they had the same problem with a Grand Cherokee yr 2006, couldn't give a quote to the owner because the system from Jeep didn't show the model anymore so didn't have chargeable times for the Job.... it's a very sad situation over here if this is the way forward with Jeep Dealerships.

Your Jeep is now 10 Yr old sorry we can't service you anymore!!!!

Hi most good mechanics here in the UK should be able to give you a cost of replacing the timing belt. Timing belt replacement far more common here and the VM diesel is not rare having been fitted in Jeeps since 2002 plus many other models. Fiat Ducato, Alfa Romero to name just two. The CRD 2.5 and 2.8 are basically the same engine.

I know that any mechanic can do it, problem is finding a good mechanic that specializes in Diesel engines and knows what to do so not to mess up. My problem is I have a Life time Warranty with my Dealership and I would rather they did it but they can't quote my as the Jeep Dealership don't have the information on the system anymore. I have contacted VM Specialist over here and I am waiting for an answer back from them.

So, your dealership is not honoring their warranty? I'd be calling a lawyer.

Good luck with lawyers - the bankruptcy wiped away all their liabilities in the USA, and I suspect it will be much the same in the UK. In the USA, they didn't even offer the lifetime warranty on the diesels in the first place - it was specifically disclaimed from the start.

I think you may be travelling the proverbial sewage estuary while lacking a means of locomotion. (yer up schit creek without a paddle)

No the Dealership respects the warranty without issue. The problem is/was that the new Chrysler/Jeep system doesn't cater anymore for vehicles over 10 yr old and it takes longer to get a quote for work as they have to go via Customer Service Jeep to get the info and that takes for ever. They finally came back with a quote after a month for the Job, this is info that should be available at each dealership without having to wait more than 30 min.
