I've found plenty of descriptions of the EMIC self-diagnostic actuator test (that I found in the FSM 8J-9.

However, I can't find anything that describes what is wrong if the test doesn't start. Nothing at all happens when I turn the key on.

Does anyone know (or have a FSM reference) what it means when the test does nothing (no lights, no sounds, no odo, no gauges)?

Thanks!

Are you referring to the DTC code check? Key off key on x3 and hold on three?

If so, why are you checking this?

No, I'm trying to get the EMIC to run through and prove it can power on the indicators and gauges.

"The EMIC also has a self-diagnostic actuator test capability, which will test each of the PCI bus message-controlled functions of the cluster by lighting the appropriate indicators (except the airbag indicator), positioning the gauge needles at several predetermined calibration points across the gauge faces, and stepping the display of the odometer Vacuum- Fluorescent Display (VFD) unit sequentially from all ones through all nines.... Successful completion of the actuator test will confirm that the instrument cluster is operational."

Inability to even start the actuator test isn't described anywhere that I can find. But some operations of the EMIC are working, so it doesn't appear to be completely dead. It seems like a fuse, but they all look good. My next step is just start swapping/replacing fuses (even if they look OK).

Light years out my field of expertise. I wish to learn more about this. Is this a way of checking that all your warning lamps are working?

WhitbyKJ - I'm pretty sure all the lamps didn't suddenly burn out in the span of a few hours (between the jeep working fine and having this problem). Plus, the self-diagnostic test goes through several phases, and the lights are just one (it also moves the gauges around, spins the odometer numbers, and sounds the chimes). So it appears to be something more fundamental than that.

Are you having issues and the reason you are wanting to do the test or is it just a game to see how it works ?

Sadly, I'm having issues and am trying to narrow down where the problem is.

Here is the full thread on my issue: viewtopic.php?p=868447#p868447
