Given how few KJ CRDs there are and even fewer in CA I'm not sure you would ever get caught if you physically deleted the EGR however there are other approaches that effectively accomplish the same thing including:
1. disconnect intake elbow to EGR pipe; weld shut; reattach - not easy
2. GED tune - pricey but worth every penny
3. SEGR - old school but you might could find one cheap.
4. one of several free EGR delete tunes - invisible to testers.

FYI in the event you do not do a weeks101 EGR delete kit but you do have to replace glow plugs I'd strongly recommend that while the intake elbow is off that you replace the 4 mounting bolts with studs. Cheap, studs and nuts available from any parts store, and will make reinstall of the intake elbow much less of a hassle.

They're trained to look for emissions components. So it has to be stealth or you definitely run the risk of failing the inspection.

I paid 3 months ago $8800 out the door for an '06 with 80k miles, and the GDE tune and torque already installed from a dealer in NJ.

I added $1200 for a bumper to bumper route 66 warranty for 3/yr 30k warranty just in case the belt decided to give out before next year when I catch Geordi on a trip up 95. (no idea if it's been replaced)

The rockers seem weak, and I'm only getting 25MPG or so.

either way, 10k sounds really high.

Just bought the Libby. 06 crd 98k miles. $11,000... Dealer wouldn't go any lower cause new turbo was installed. At first I hesitated but being back behind the wheel of it, I don't regret it. Love the ride. Now to handle the small issues and enjoy.
